The bunks are nice, but I've always found having my own blankie or sleeping bag and pillow was better.

Nice bottle of wine.

You guys are getting me very excited. Beyond dive gear, any 'nice to have' stuff for the liveaboard?

EDIT: Got a nice boat coat from truwest.

Like Chris mentioned, sleeping bag & pillow are good.. Space is limited so be careful not to overpack-- get the trial sized soaps, shampoo, deodorant, toothpaste etc.. Definitely bring towels for the shower.. Bring meds if you get seasick (yes it can happen on a large boat too), along with stuff for headaches/tummyaches...
Bring a save-a-dive kit- don't depend on someone else to loan you stuff you might need... Bring an extra mask if you have one.
Boat has outlets if you want to bring your laptop (no internet service out there), camera charger, etc..
Bring a book, magazine, Ipod or something for those "quiet" moments- such as at night when you're in your bunk and need to "de-stress" for a few minutes before falling asleep.... (each bunk has a little reading light).....

BYOBooze if you plan to drink alcohol.
And don't forget to tip the crew at the end of the trip.

If I think of anything else, I'll post it here. :)

Question for you guys on packing. So I need to bring all my dive gear, my weights, tank, and clothing/sleeping stuff/toiletries, etc. How best to pack? It clearly will not all fit into one bag :)

Gear in gear bag, weights in weight bag. You should be able to fit most of your clothes & toiletries, couple of towels, etc into a medium sized duffel bag. Carry on the sleeping bag & pillow, and throw the miscellaneous stuff into a backpack if needed.
You'll have to make a couple of trips to get all your stuff onto the boat.

Cool sounds good. In a perfect world, I could arrange to have my tank waiting for me on the boat, but I guess I'll have to rough it ;) Only a few more days!!!!!

Hope you have fun....at least you can dive without a hood down south...I think...:confused2 other then that, I seriously need to go down south and check out the south.

I dove with the peace out of Ventura, last year and we're going again at the end of this month. I got six dives a day in and I dive wet too, but that was more than most people. Like you I'm used to getting 2 dives in Monterey and being wiped. Boat diving is so much easier and the water in the channel islands was about 64 degrees. you'll never want to shore dive again:D One thing I would definitely recommend is ear plugs to help you sleep at night. There are so many people crammed in a small space it can sometimes be hard to sleep with some people snoring and all the creaks and moans of the ship. Also like other people mentioned bring your sleeping bag and pillow. Hopes this helps and have a great time!

Ear plugs! Thanks for that tip. And 64 degrees! That would be so nice!

Does anyone know if I will have cell coverage at all while on the boat?

Cell coverage is OK around Catalina and spotty to none offshore.

Dave

You can have tanks as good as waiting for you on the boat. Rent them from Truth Aquatics, the shop is 50 feet form the boats.

I rent the St 95s when I go on Truth boats
