I am contemplating a trip to So Cal in January to do a live aboard of the Channel Islands. The online websites don't show cruises running at this time. Is this a bad time of year or is it too far out in time for them to finalize a schedule? Ideally, a short trip of 3-5 days would work for my schedule. I would appreciate any insights and tips to help bring this together.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have dove Casino point in the past. This was a nice introduction to the Channel Islands. My preference is a liveaboard to see more sites and get in more diving. I’ll check February and March availability. Maybe some trips have been scheduled now.

Also check out this SoCal shop. They have lots of local trips to cool, hard-to-get-to sites. Weather dependent obviously, but this shop always targets the more challenging dive sites at the various Channel Islands instead of just going to Catalina or Anacapa 30-ft deep, sandy bottom sites so that the OW students can do their checkout dives.

January is kind if the off season for multi day LOB is Socal. It’s too unpredictable with weather, and that’s also when a lot of them haul out. But there are boats that do day trips since it’s easier to cancel a day trip if the weather turns bad. They will be on Fri, Sat, Sun.
You could check out the Spectre out of Ventura and book two or three day trips in a row and just stay at a hotel in Ventura each night. Unfortunately they don’t let you crash out on the boat for free in a bunk anymore since the Conception disaster.
They might go to three different places each day and do three tanks a day, so it would be just like doing a liveaboard trip except you wouldn’t be staying out there.
