Seldom have I read negative things about a specific individual mentioned on this board. This was the case with Capt. Gary of Scubatyme in Pompano Beach. He was figuratively beaten up by not only the original poster, but by others piling on. For right or wrong, I took these warnings to heart and booked with another charter company this past week. Turned out, things have changed at Scubatyme. Capt. Bryan is now co-owner of Scubatyme, along with a partner that isn't Capt. Gary. I just want to go on record that Capt. Bryan and his DM's, Chris and Amanda were wonderful. I can't express how much these folks went out of their way to accommodate not only my wife and me, but other divers on the boat as well.
What happened to the other charter company? We were blown out on Monday. No problem, but that did give us a chance to meet Capt Bryan and get to know a little about his operation, his attitude and his business beliefs. We were impressed and promised to give him a try the next time we dive Pompano. Tuesday came, we waited for the other charter company, and fifteen minutes before the boat was to leave, I called to find out what was happening. They informed me that they didn't have a reservation for me. I informed them not only do I have one, but it was confirmed in writing from their charter company. They said they would call me back. They did, saying there was room on Scubatyme. I said fine, and please cancel ALL my other reservations for the week. They did, including a cancellation for the Tuesday run that we didn't have a reservation for?!?! My best guess is my wife and I were the only two scheduled to dive, so they decided the boat wouldn't go out. They just didn't tell us that.
Back to Scubatyme and Capt. Bryan. I can't think of a better charter company that I have dove with. Great people, great boat (immaculate and filled the water jugs with fresh BOTTLED water each morning)...both clean and roomy even when the boat was near full capacity, and a true willingness to satisfy everyone. On more than one dive some wanted to do a wreck, others wanted to do a reef, and Capt. Bryan found the spots were everyone could do what they wanted. Just a wonderful experience.
I hope others that might have had a negative impression towards Scubatyme will reconsider...you won't be disappointed.
