CHAMBER DAY/EVE UPDATE #2 (4/10/06 - last posted 3/26)

We continue to make progress as we march towards May 3 and the annual fund-raiser for our Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. But we’ve got a long way to go until the finish line. And we can only do it with your help by getting you to sign up for Chamber Day, Chamber Evening, contribute to the Chamber Challenge, or buy one of our commemorative Chamber Day 2006 tiles. Full information on everything can be found at www.chamberday.org .

Your local shops, clubs, and boats should now have our official posters and we've got some postcards (with the Chamber Day logo) going out this week. And we're getting great reaction to the Flying Dutchman logo (http://www.reefseekers.com/Ken pages/FD_bevel_500.jpg) which is a take-off on the main logo. (Our personal favorite is the bony starfish skeleton.) This will be the image that'll be on the back of the Flying Dutchman t-shirt, available only to those who sign up for the Dutchman. As an added bonus, this year we're not only giving you the shirt (it says "Flying Dutchman crew" on the front) but we'll also throw in a poster. All this for your $85 donation. So get yourself signed up for the Dutchman before it . . . oh wait. It can't fill up. Unlimited supply and all that.

Here’s where we are on the various event aspects right now.

BOATS (sponsor):
Aquatica (Douglas Dive Club & Dive ‘N Surf) - A little over half full
Bottom Scratcher (Open) - About 1/3 full
Cee Ray (Reef Seekers) - About 10 spots left
Flying Dutchman (Open) - 20 so far - unlimited space (t-shirts & posters!!!!)
Great Escape (Open) - SOLD OUT
Island Time (Sport Chalet) - About 15 spaces left
Magician (Sport Chalet) - SOLD OUT
Mr. C (Ca Wreck Divers & Rod Francis) - About 8 spaces left
Pacific Star (Scuba Schools of America) - 6 spots left
Psalty V (Scuba Schools of America) - SOLD OUT
Sea Bass (Grant Graves) - Grant's in Cayman so we're not sure . . .
Second Stage (Scuba Schools of America) - SOLD OUT
Sundiver (Ocean Adventures) - SOLD OUT

The best bet for a sponsored boat is to call the sponsor directly. For an open boat (or any questions) call 310/652-4990.

Chamber Evening is filling up faster than it ever has before. We've also gotten more requests from groups for tables thane ever before. As a result of the increased demand, the Committee voted at the last meeting to add six more tables for the event. But that's the absolute maximum capacity. So if you want to go, make sure you get a hold of us before we sell out, as it appears we will do. Here where we are as of today:

CHAMBER CHALLENGE
We’ll update this one separately but as of 4/10 we’re at $6640. We’ve got a long ways to go to beat the $23K we did last year but - with your help - we can do it.

MURALS & INDIVIDUAL TILES
We’ve already sold eleven full murals ($500 each) and fourteen individual tiles. These are great keepsakes and truly collectibles. They also make nice gifts.

So that’s where we are. We'll keep you posted over the next few weeks and, as always, we thank you for your support.

We're over $7000!!! But this is slightly behind the pace that we established last year so it'd be nice to get some more of you to contribute and join other divers in our area who are willing to step up and support the Chamber that we all hope we'll never need, but for which we're grateful if we or one of our friends should be in needs of those services.

The new folks joining our list include Robert & Laura Mosqueda, Mary-Lou Quinn, SoBay Jim, Tina & Alberto Mantovani, and Walt Schob. And the epitomize what makes this event and the Challenge so great because they're mainly $100 contributors. And those $100 contributions, when piled all together, go a long way to help keeping our Chamber solid.

So who's ready to add their name to the list? Who willing to take a stand and say to their friends, "I support the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber and you should too." WHO'S NEXT?????

We've passed the $8300 mark but it's a long way to the finish line with 16 days to go until Chamber Day 2006. As you hopefully know by now, this event generates much-needed funds for our Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber which simply cannot function at it's peak without support from the diving community.

Our latest contributors to the Chamber Challenge include Mark Lacaillade, Diving Charters Inc. - Sand Dollar, Craig Oberlin, Frank O'Donnell, Burbank Dive Club, Chris Rybak, Conoco-Phillips (matching grant), Michael & Alice Reedy, Elaine Jobin, Karen Cleveland, and Sachiko Ewald-Streit (who's actually a non-diver but loves divers a lot).

If we could get another 100 people to each donate $100, that would be tremendous. Who's up to the Challenge? Who's willing to support our Chamber??

Well, the samples anyway . . .

Here's what they look like. The big tiles are 6"x6". The corner/Chamber tile is 4"x4".

Cee Ray (yeah, I got stuck with Ken....) :14:

Cee Ray here too. (I usually have a special place in my heart for the Sundiver, but it was already full when I got the green light for the vacation day.)

Ken, incidentally, told me that although Reef Seekers is the charter shop for the Cee Ray, since it's a chamber event the shop rules don't apply. I wonder how much Ken would charge (as a chamber donation of course) to pose with my tank of 32%?

Pac Star, here. Same with HBBlueGlove.

Yup...PacStar. Blue Gloves flocking together :D. (I'll try to stay "up-light":14:)
