I just passed OW 3 and 4 and have been certified. How long does it take to receive your card. My instructor said I should have it before 10 days as the system is computerized. Yet I have seen frequent postings, many divers recently certified are still waiting after months. Any imput would be appreciated. Ronnie

It took less than 2 weeks for me to get my card from NAUI. My instructor gave me a temporary card when I became certified.
It took a little longer to get my AOW card but, it's because my instructor slacked on sending in the information.

I don't know how long it takes for PADI, SSI, etc. to receive your card.

PADI cards in 2 - 4 Weeks
as long as you have your temp card go ahead and take a trip.
also any resort or operator can go online and look your number up to verify. so write your number down in your log book :)

If you made your cert dives on the weekend, and filled out your portion of the PIC, and supplied the instructor with a picture, PADI....2 weeks + a week. It all depends on how many OW certifications are being processed at the time. If for some strange reason you don't have your C-card in 4 weeks, go back to your instructor because something is wrong. Your instructor can go to PADI online and see if your PIC has been processed and he can check with PADI to see when your C-Card was mailed. I've only had one student that didn't receive a C-Card in under 3 weeks, usually 2 weeks. This student was in the 3 month timeframe, I checked and the PIC was processed, so I called PADI and they overnighted the C-Card to the student.

I teach for NASE...My card turnaround is 4 days...I generally present the students their cards when they complete dive 4...NASE uses a computerized PIC system. I process the cards on my computer and electronically submit them to NASE

We received our cards the day of our last checkout dive.

After our first pool session, the instructor felt we would have no OW issues and went ahead and ordered them.

do you care if you actually have the card?

He needs it if he wants to get his tanks filled, or go on any dive boats, although the temp card will probably work for now.

PADI

Certified 05-JUN-2005 (SUNDAY) Got it 22-JUN-2005. I thought it was pretty fast but then again I have nothing to compare it to.

For what it's worth....
My wife and I got certified a week ago and had temporary cards the same day.

I bought and used an air fill card (2 tanks twice) at a dive shop that does not know me, never showed a card.

Got a free permit to dive a state run beach, just had to say we were certified.

After all that work nobody wants to even see my temp card. Maybe if I were diving on the sly they'd sense it and ask, I don't know.
