*-ing _______. makes it an adjective. they are not using it as a noun or a verb. Unless they say "You have about one heartbeat to un-blank yourself" then, it is a verb. But mostly it is being used as an ajective, which makes no sense if youn think about it. I am with Lenny Bruce on this one. I think they should save it for a more appropriate time.

I prefer not be be around bad language. the Brits with that one word WE NEVER say takes the cake around here. Our mouths just drop open.

omg--this is kind of off topic, but it was so funny.

JB and I were driving through the marine base and he pulls out. Then he says "did he just flip ME off?" I didn't see a thing. So the next thing you know we are chasing down some 19 year olds, about six piled in a twenty year old Gremlin, he is honking and pointing for them to pull over... (yikes)

So, JB gets out and marches over there like that SGT on Gomer Pile and gets this kids ID card, and I am dying to hear, so I crack my window and I hear him screaming #**@%& "how long have you been in the Marine corps..two months?#$****??!!" Don't you know everybody on this base probably outranks you, you dumb-%%&&@@#?***^^$#??? maybe it is not such a good idea for you to be flipping anybody off...!!!***%$%

So, by know I am thinking maybe I should do something (since "he" had been home from Iraq for about 24 hours) PTSD and all, lol. I was scared for that kid, I could see him shaking in his seat from fifty feet away.

poor kid, probaly just did the "auto-flip" without even thinking. The auto-flip, like cursing can get you killed.

It must be difficult for you hating bad language, but loving the men who use it.

i cuss. a lot. even in the boardroom. with my CFO and my CEO. i am not saying it is alright; it is just that the F--- word has been thrown around so much, so often, that for most of us, it really loses its real meaning anymore. and for people being around you too often, they would know there really is nothing there but just that.

which brings me back to the topic about some part of this board - subforums- where conversations are shifted always to "that" direction... we are all used to it and we all DO NOT MIND. and we do not really *******ing care if others do. they can go around their normal business with this board and we can continue ours in that own little area where consensus has been reach among the dwellers. that is why we found ourselves hanging around that forum often- too much for most of us, really.

When did we as a society go from respect for one's personal beliefs and freedoms, to being so self absorbed that all we can think about is what is best for ME? I want it so I should be able to have it/do it/not do it/say it and if you don't like it F You!

I'm quite certain it was before my time. 1776 maybe? I don't like it either but doing the right thing means a little more to me if it is done as the result of a choice being made, rather than it being compulsory. I feel the same sort of despair over the general trend towards the self that runs so strong in our culture, but I am powerless over the descisions that others make. I do have the power to do the right thing myself though. I am freed from frustration if I only worry about what I do, and from shame if every time I make a choice, I choose to do the right thing.

I am funny that way. fire and ice, baby. lol

such language is not tolerated in my office... from any staff member, and i worked in construction for 15yrs so ive pretty much heard it all

and do you cuss in front of your mother? i do say the F word occasionally but i would never say it in front of just anyone out of respect for that person.

for me thats where the lines blur... people throw around their constitional rights (and remember, we are global - australia technically doesnt have a constitution) but they seem to have forgotten there should be some respect when exercising those rights also

well, i guess, the swiss and the german bosses at my previous company and my american boss now do not seem to mind. i still have my job. and the promotion. and the increase....well, something ought to finance my impulsive travels....

and yes, i do cuss around my mum, mrs.A. but i never cuss at her- that is where i draw the line. and the first time she heard me utter the F word eight years ago, she flinched. but she got over it. she knew it has become an expression. and nothing more. so, she's cool with it.

You are probably right about it ending it's usefulness. Trying to categorize and assign moral direction to how and why particular mods do what they do, without input from those mods, is pointless conjecture. However, the purpose of this area was to provide feedback to the management about the board. I think they should have learned much from this thread.
Disagree. How many people are popping in throughout each day vs occasionally or sporadically? I suspect the majority is the latter and what are the chances of them seeing this issue and contributing, in particular, being in the majority.

So far there has been response from the ruling class indicating they are aware of it. It appears the only issue they have addressed was the off topic anonymous poster complaint by several people and it was disabled.

IMO, disagreed with is acceptable but ignored is not.

and so, my point is that - oh god, this is so ****ing tiring to have to repeat it over and over again- why not let some non-diving related sub-forum where people who frequent there reach consensus what is and what isn't acceptable?

for example:

*i vote for hot chick friday because i absolutely see nothing wrong with it. i see stuff like that up on the billboards everyday i go to and leave work or in a magazine or at one time, in an advertisment in the further left corner of the SB page...

*i vote for being able to say or throw around words like bitch, ass, ****, moron, arse, etc etc etc around people i hang out with on a sub-forum because being rude to one another is not our intention when we use those words. they're just ornaments for us. and we know it. as long as we don't march out of that forum and start cussing around the DIR yard or the Dork Diver's haven... where is the big deal?

...........*i vote for being able to say or throw around words like bitch, ass, ****, moron, arse, etc etc etc around people i hang out with on a sub-forum ............?

but, i dont want you calling me bitch, ass, **** (im hopinig that isnt the c word), moron ect..... in humor or otherwise

just becasue i opt into a forum doesnt mean that everyone has to leave their sensibilites at the door does it??

ps - you know i lurv you maggie so we only agreeing to disagree... oh, and dont go swearing in front of my mum in january ok ;)
