So who are we protecting? Your virgin ears?

I am offended by bad language, it makes my mind skip like a scratched record. Ideas don't offend me though. whew, big adjustment being around these Marine types back from Iraq, they are unbelievable. My brain hurts like it is being pounded with a mallot. The f word might be their most used adjective. when they get together....
K-bay is wierd, there are so many rules and yet that word is flying through the sky everywhere you go. But don't wear slippahs to the exchange, or wear an i-pod running, lol. Talk about kool-aide.

That would be a noun or verb.

No

*-ing _______. makes it an adjective. they are not using it as a noun or a verb. Unless they say "You have about one heartbeat to un-blank yourself" then, it is a verb. But mostly it is being used as an ajective, which makes no sense if youn think about it. I am with Lenny Bruce on this one. I think they should save it for a more appropriate time.

I prefer not be be around bad language. the Brits with that one word WE NEVER say takes the cake around here. Our mouths just drop open.

omg--this is kind of off topic, but it was so funny.

JB and I were driving through the marine base and he pulls out. Then he says "did he just flip ME off?" I didn't see a thing. So the next thing you know we are chasing down some 19 year olds, about six piled in a twenty year old Gremlin, he is honking and pointing for them to pull over... (yikes)

So, JB gets out and marches over there like that SGT on Gomer Pile and gets this kids ID card, and I am dying to hear, so I crack my window and I hear him screaming #**@%& "how long have you been in the Marine corps..two months?#$****??!!" Don't you know everybody on this base probably outranks you, you dumb-%%&&@@#?***^^$#??? maybe it is not such a good idea for you to be flipping anybody off...!!!***%$%

So, by know I am thinking maybe I should do something (since "he" had been home from Iraq for about 24 hours) PTSD and all, lol. I was scared for that kid, I could see him shaking in his seat from fifty feet away.

poor kid, probaly just did the "auto-flip" without even thinking. The auto-flip, like cursing can get you killed.

What I would like to hear is someone here define "adult language" (I guess the English or American version) to me?? Wikipedia redirects you to "Profanity". Maybe I am misunderstanding what people want.

It's my personal opinion that the "F" word is just straight up "F" once you add "ing" it's different. There is evidence of this in the abbreviation "F'n, or effing". If the "F" word encompassed the "ing" applications (use as an adjective) then it would stand to reason that "F'n" and "Effing" would be unnecessary, and not exist.

My view is, that whether you say the whole word or just the first letter, or some phrase of otherwise benign words like "Bumping uglies" the language doesn't bother me a whole lot, however if all you can seem to be able to focus on is talking about bumping uglies, that just gets boring. There's other stuff that needs talking aout too. Like how great I am, or pretty much anything good about me. Things about me that are bad should not be discussed publicly, or in private.

So who are we protecting? Your virgin ears?

It is possible to maintain a civil forum without personal attacks AND one that allows ADULT language to be used......

So is adding the line about virgin ears not a personal attack (albeit a slight one)?

If the point of the thread at this point is for a more consistent but much less moderated forum with a separate ToS agreement, then I can see the point.

If it is now to just a "I want to swear if I want to and should be able to no matter what anyone else thinks" thread, then I think that's different. When did we as a society go from respect for one's personal beliefs and freedoms, to being so self absorbed that all we can think about is what is best for ME? I want it so I should be able to have it/do it/not do it/say it and if you don't like it F You! Look around and you can see that as a society we have almost no respect for anything that is not on our own personal agenda. Talk about being narcissistic. So if other members are not as supportive of the idea as you might want don't just chalk it up to puritanism. Some may just not feel the need like you do. And according to your posts are as entitled to their opinion as you are, correct?

I liked it when Lamont pointed out that omission can be just as political.

wooo

good one

can't say much to that

he reads way too much. Andy too, they need to dumb themselves down so they can relate better.
