Very good point Jeff. What is hard in internet posting, someone can type something and mean one thing, and someone can read it to mean another. Unless you know someone really well, I think that happens a lot.

There is a huge difference between a troll, and a difference of opinion. I'd like to see that judged better.

I am sure most people have no idea who I am or what I am like in person. I can't expect them to understand what is behind each post.

Based on my 10,000 foot lurking view, and having watched the intentional interruption or attempt to hijack this thread by others from the non-diving areas Surface Interval Chatty Cathy group here's feedback on the whats typed vs. whats percieved. Whats typed most times a distracting post most times with or icons, then it gets a few more followed by posts from supporters using or .

After getting clever and learning how to view all users posts so I could find some threads I posted to but learned I could do it for others as well, I learned that the disrupters were bragging about being disruptive or harassing a partiular user. These posts had lots of icons in them.

What I perceive about those posting there is that rum is constantly consumed and completely in desire for intimate relations with just about any opposite sex person so as long as they are breathing. Excellent, I'm trying to learn more about diving and there are hormonally driven drunkards brashly posting without care that someone may have a serious interest in the subject matter at hand.

I found ignore and those who were the worst of it are on it.

For censorship this board does a very good job at just letting a lot of posts be out there. Sometimes something gets hit that is a little overboard, but in the grand scheme, that sometimes is a very small percentage. All this over being able to type out a few cusswords? Try a thesaurus. Merriam Webster has several great options for the fecal term. Google language tools offers other languages to. Mierda, дерьмо,

I'm sure if one tried, they could crack my password and access my PM. They might find many things there to be offended by. Of course, that would take considerable effort, but opting into the SI forums also requires a degree of effort.

So I ask why would anyone go to any effort to be offended? Apparently, there is a video making the rounds on the net called 2girls1cup. I got the gist of the content and find it rather offensive. Guess what, I won't be seeking it out.

I say you people are looking for things to be offended by, so why are you whining about it when you find it?

Why don't you move the thread to site-support so that the Anonymous Poster can't be used for trolling.

Clearly, the Anon Poster function has allowed TOS violations to be committed without recourse. It needs to die. Amazing this post is allowed to live when others have been moderated.

In summary, I believe we should moderate (censor) the diving forums and liberally moderate the SI. So, isn’t that what is being currently done?

I got two e-mails from a moderator and my post edited as being uncivil.

See here is the deal, if you disagree with any of these guys and express an opinion that differs, well you can expect them to follow you around the board and bad mouth you for weeks. Who needs that? They aren't the only ones with an opinion.

The thread was started by calling anyone who wants moderation a bunch of kids and proclaimed that the board was only catering to children. I find that insulting.

I'm not having a field day. It is obvious my post touched on something that was soo long overdue.

Yes. I started to say similar things about a year ago when lost interest here due to IMHO over moderation and threads pulled in response to one single complainer at times. There were some very lively conversations happening when suddenly everything came to a screeching halt. A thread about the issue came up and the consensus from the powers that be was conservative and IMHO restricted to speaking appropriate to 10 year olds.
I’m happy you spoke up, a year ago it seemed pointless. Perhaps if more people with like minds present their opinions there will be a chance.

Bold type mine. This is what I was referring to. Why do you have to call anyone anything? If you believe in free speech, why not just accept their point of view without descending into name-calling? I just don't get it.

The point is that people call eachother bad things already, just that they cant use the direct words, so they find other ways.. Same ****, different wording..
