Is there any Cenote diving being done on Cozumel and if so what dive ops are taking people?

The cenotes in Cozumel are actually full cave...so you have to have a full cave certification to do those on the island.

German Yañez of Yucatech and Diego Romo are the top tech guys on the island IMO. http://www.yucatech.net/

Diego doesn't have a website, but you can e-mail him at diegogolem@yahoo.com

So you are saying cavern, intro cave, apprentice cave divers are not able to access these caves?

The systems are not set up for cavern diving. The cenotes on the mainland are where you would want to go for the guided cavern tours. If you are doing training for cave or whatever i imagine you would dive these systems if you are training with Rollie or Herman.

I would think it would take a minimum of Intro-to-cave.

For what I have heard from friends these systems are different from the mainland.
The front end of caves that start ‘on the island’ have been described and delicate and dark (muddy) with little cavern area -then as they drop a bit deeper they lighten up (rock color) and you hit a similar appearance to the mainland caves. Aerolite has been described as an incredible cave and the entrance from the sea would be a blast.

I am hoping to get to dive these sites in July when I am down at Cozumel.
I just hope they don’t mind me diving my sidemount kit. I hate wearing tanks on my back unless I absolutely have to. It really messes with the open water folks.

Later, Andrew
Ps- I just read your Profile and Saw your Pic of Patti (nice shot.)
The site is shallow, just not as open or clean as the mainland.
Congrats on the new Meg.

Just got back from Cozumel and booked a trip to the mainland to dive the Cenote Dos Ojos. One word: amazing. No. another: incredible: Wait: WOW.
