Hi guys,
I'm new to this site and not sure i'm doing the right thing in asking this question here. Anyway, easter weekend all being well I am starting a new venture on the North Coast of Northern Ireland in the town of Ballycastle. The Idea is to teach people to dive and to take divers out to the local dive sites in the first and only hard boat operating on the north coast. The trouble I'm having at the moment is getting hold of 20x12ltr cylinders at a good price. The best price I've got so far is £89.99. So can anyone out there help me. I also need weight belts and weights. I can't believe I'm actually doing this. It's costing me a bundle of money to set this up and any help would be appreciated. So to finish keep an eye out for my website www.celticwaves.com and if you mention you saw this thread i'll give you a free air fill if you bring your tanks along. Cheers.

And welcome so your going to be diving the Drake Thrush and maybe the Girona site lucky you. I would suggest going to http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/ you would get more answers there for your part of the world and possibly clients. Good luck I hope you have some good crack and the venture works out for you.

The Templemore is good for a root around on and not so long a trek if you're taking trainees out for one of their early wreck dives. The slip side of the harbour wall used to be excellent for lobsters as fishermen finding undersized or berried ones in their pots would chuck them over the side there, then gut fish, ensuring a plentiful food supply for the survivors. Also Pan's Rock at the extreme eastern end of the beach, a bit of a walk along the beach but worthwhile.

I don't know if there's a club in Ballycastle but there certainly are in Portrush and Portstewart. I think UUCSAC has folded. They might be able to offer advice as might Sam Moffett. I presume with Tommy gone none of the Cecils have taken up taking divers out?

I'd echo cdiver's sentiments, yorkshire divers, despite its name, is probably the best active diving forum for all areas of the UK. You'll get heaps of advice a possibly a bit of custom from them.

Cheers

Steve

PS your website link doesn't work for me and a google turns up a pile of irrelevant sites, celticwaves seems to be a popular name.

Hi Hickdive,
thanks for your reply. I have sam moffetts number and will call him tomorrow. Tommy cecils son douglas is a mate of mine and he's on about getting a rib in the water for the season. I can't wait for it all to kick off. Lots of work to be done. The website isnt up and running as yet but hopefully soon. as is the email. anyway again thanks for your reply.
kind regards
mark

You may also want to contact James Stewart at Queens university he is the BSAC regional coach for NI and a very knowable diver I was diving with him in 74-75

I'm pretty sure Sam is the Regional Coach for NI now and I'm almost sure he's been forgiven for the 'Lets all wade to the Isle of Man' instructor exam in Strangford last April :eyebrow: .

Anyway, I'll keep an eye out for celticwaves website. I'd love to get back to Ballycastle for some diving with perhaps a side trip to Bushmills, for research purposes only of course. ;)
