Hi Ruben,

As far as I know the full name of the CEN250 standard is this:
EN 250:2000: Respiratory equipment. Open-circuit self-contained compressed air diving apparatus. Requirements, testing, marking

I know you can buy it on the internet for a exhorbitant price but I'm not sure if you can find a free copy of the text to read. It's about 20 pages.

you can probably start searching at http://www.cenorm.org to find a copy of the standard translated into your own language.

I do know that free flow resistance ranked high on the list and that some high perfromance US models ended up being de-tuned slightly to meet the CE free flow requirement. Sort of a step backward in terms of performance.

Good morning,
I am reviving this really old thread. I would like to know what the actual specifications are for CE EN250. Many sales brochures for regulators state the reg ceared CE approval to EN 250. I saw one reference that the requirements and tests provided for in EN 250:2000 are aimed at providing a minimum safely level fo rthe operations of diving breathing apparatuses at a maximum depth of 50m. I have also seen references to EN250 on descriptions of cold water regs and references to greater depths.
Does anyone know exactly what the CE EN250 specifications are?

Carrie

It's not that you need it, it's that the manufacturers have to meet the standard to sell regs in the EU

The standard contains limits on inhalation and exhalation pressures and overall work of breathing. It specifies the following, under test conditions of a breathing rate of 62.5 litres (2.2 cu ft) per minute and an ambient pressure of 6 bars (600 kPa):

* Work of breathing: <3.0 joules per litre
* Peak respiratory pressure: ±25 mbar (±2.5 kPa) (inhalation or exhalation)
* Inhalation work of breathing: <0.3 joule per litre
* Pressure spikes with no measurable positive work of breathing: <10 mbar (1 kPa)
* Pressure spikes with measurable positive work of breathing: <5 mbar (0.5 kPa)
