Sub disperso a Cala Luna, riprese le ricerche all'alba - Sardegna

At the first light of dawn, the search for the diver who was missing yesterday in a cave in front of the beach of Cala Luna in Dorgali resumed. This is Paolo Sedda, 48 years old from Gavoi, an agent of the Nuoro Police Headquarters who had dived yesterday morning together with an instructor from the Cala Gonone diving center and four other divers to explore the cave of the Risorgenza, but has never re-emerged.

The comrades gave the alarm and the divers of the fire brigade worked on the spot all afternoon and until late yesterday evening.
The Nuoro Public Prosecutor's Office has opened an investigation into the matter.
This morning the divers continue their search inside the cave which extends for about 500 meters and reaches a depth of 40 meters. On site there are the patrol boats of the Olbia Harbor Master's Office, the Carabinieri and colleagues from the Nuoro di Sedda Police Headquarters.
The command of the fire brigade of the capital of Barbagia sent the local crisis unit to coordinate all operations.

Dramma a Cala Luna, sub disperso in una grotta marina profonda 40 metri - Casteddu On line

Drama in the Sardinian waters of Cala Luna, we have lost track of a diver who dived with a friend.
The request for SOS, received at the operations room of the Nuoro Fire Brigade Command, by the Port Authority, present on site with a patrol boat, led to the activation of rescue operations. On site the Drago 144 (helicopter based in Alghero), with four diving specialists on board. From the information received from the Port Authority there is the possibility that the man entered an underwater cave 200 meters from the coast in a depth of 6 meters, for which divers from Cagliari and Sassari with specialization Speleosub were activated. The Dragon arrived on the scene and launched the two divers and headed towards the couple of speleosubs arriving from Cagliari, along the way to speed up the arrival time on the point. The cave which extends for about 500 meters, and reaches a depth of about 40 meters, the man dived with a friend, during the dive at about 100 meters, they communicated visually, the intention to return, but when the first realized he was alone, he went out to call for help. Hopefully there are air pockets in the cave, which would give hope for a successful rescue.

The Port Authority with a large-capacity patrol boat brought the four speleosubs, two from the Cagliari Command and two from the Sassari Command, regional Speleosub task force, to the point, with all the necessary equipment for the complex rescue intervention.
On the spot, the Nuoro Fire Brigade command sent a local crisis unit for the timely recording of operations.

Diver dead in Cala Luna, broken line likely due to death

The breaking of the line could have been the cause of the death of Paolo Sedda, the 48-year-old police officer from Nuoro, who died Thursday morning in a cave in Cala Luna, after entering for a dive with four other experienced divers, plus an instructor. The firefighters of the Nuoro Provincial Command ascertained this.

The breaking of the line, a sort of Ariadne's thread that helps the divers to follow the path inside the cave, could have caused the diver who has never ascended to lose his or her orientation.
The line, in fact, is a mandatory procedure in cave diving: the first diver who enters extends the line so that the others can follow him. When returning, the last diver disassembles the line and rewinds it.
Meanwhile, the autopsy on the corpse of the police officer carried out in the Policlinico di Monserrato by the coroner Nicola Lenigno, ascertained the "death by drowning" of the diver and the time of death "is compatible with that of the diver's failure to resurface" , or between 1pm and 2pm on Thursdays.
The professional asked for 90 days to produce the results on the histological examinations, which can tell if an illness also occurred during the dramatic moments of the accident. Sedda on Thursday morning had entered the cave with one of the five divers of the company, but at the moment of his ascent, no trace had been lost and the searches had begun.

group of 6 people diving in a Cave!
Last time I went to these caves, there were only two shops providing gases and the boat ride (the caves start from the sea) and both were not the type of taking 6 people at the same time...
