It seems as if conservatism isn't a big deal to some of you folks. Progressive penetration, progressive depth limits are all designed to allow the diver to gain experience closer to the entrance or closer to the surface. I'm not sure how I could better instill that lesson.

I suppose when you've been doing it long enough to have one of those "oh ****" moments it just seems so much clearer.

I'm done, this is too much a reminder of GI3 being so close minded and not even listening to what is being said

I've seen first hand people panic when they thought they were out of air but really had 2000 psi. There have been a number of fatalities where the diver thought they were out of air, panicked, and died.

OK.

Why I went side mount.... I read way to many stories/articles/posts where a back mount diver thought they were out of air because of a roll off...

@tbone1004 Thanks for sticking with it as long as you did.... I'll continue the battle until they concede or we all get bored....

It is after all about changing standards.... not how far a diver should or should not go after being certified....

I'm not advocating 0-hero, I'm advocating a change in the archaic way that the industry teaches cave training because intro isn't enough, apprentice is but has an expiration date, so if you want to cave dive in the US you are basically forced to go through full cave. You are forced to go through full cave if you want to dive in sidemount because neither NAUI nor GUE will let you take the course in sidemount

Switch to an agency with more up to date training. NASE comes to mind. Reggie Ross can help you out.

...or just complete the Cave Diver training curriculum.

Not everyone wants to, personal limits and all that.
But I suspect that someone who only wants to have modest penetrations, limited navigation, and no deco should also probably stick to larger passages suitable for backmounted doubles anyway. And there are at least 2 agencies that have non-expiring intro/apprentice level courses in backmount.

I get that but that's the "best" way to remove the restrictions that some people don't like. Do you know which agencies have expiring certs now? I'm only aware of GUE's.
