Dive Paradise went out of the way to go to every dive site in Cozumel that we wanted to dive. We tended to be on the same boat everyday with the same divers and yes, we did vote for each destination. We were mostly on the boat "Tango" and it's a fast boat and never more than 12 divers (spit in to two groups). The DM's went way out of their way to accomidate those of us with video cameras. Things like taking turns being first through swim throughs were especially appreciated. Even the "in house" videographer pointed out shots that I would have other wise missed.

I'm not saying anything negtive about DP here, but you say you were on the "Tango" which is a fast boat.

I think you are confused as to what people are referring to when they talk about fast boats. Tango IS NOT considered a fast boat and it holds up to 25 or 30 divers...not sure of the exact rating on it. It's a very nice dive boat, but it is for a large group of divers.

When people refer to "fast" boats in Cozumel, they are referring to the smaller six or eight packs with 150 to 200HP. Rides to the reef are less than 45 minutes from town even to the southernmost sites, 20 to 30 minutes to Palancar and less to the closer in reefs.

I suspect that you guys were part of a group and had the boat to yourselves if there were only 12 on the boat. Was that the case?

Just out of curiosity...was this your first trip to Cozumel? Have you ever dove with any other shops in Cozumel. just curious...no ill intent at all. I'm just interested to know what frame of reference people have when rating dive shops.

Welcome to ScubaBoard, Diveheaven!
Interesting first post. Fill out your profile and tell us a little about yourself, OK? :eyebrow:

Hey what happened to Diveheaven's post ? I was just reading it now it's gone. :11:
Well, you can give your opinion on SB all you want. But you can't waste that much bandwidth on your first post personally insulting someone and calling them names and generally having a tantrum without getting deleted - and right the mods were to do it. As you might gather from my :eyebrow: on the above, I was suspect as to this poster's affiliation with DP.

I visited Cozumel for the first time last month and had a really great time diving with DeepBlue. My group stayed at Hotel Cozumel and we shared a dock with Dive Paradise customers. I had read of cattle boats before and when I saw a large DP boat crowded with people I thought "that's gotta be one of those cattle boats" and I was glad I wasn't getting on it. DeepBlue used the Nuria for most of our dives. It was a fairly large boat with a bathroom, and our group of ten plus DM's were very comfortable with the extra room. The boat didn't seem all that fast but never seemed to have any problem getting us to really good southern reefs. We almost never saw any other divers near us and only occassionally saw boats in our area. Of course we did see moderate boat traffic coming and going at the start and end of the morning dive cycle. The very few times a smaller group of us used a fast boat we were somewhat crowded and less comfortable. The dives and sites we visited were equally great but not really any better because of our boat size and speed.
I must say I felt a little spoiled by the comfort of the larger boat. Because of thoughtful planning, and excellent service from DeepBlue, our group of about 10 had an impressive experience.
I immediately fell in love with Coz diving and now enjoy reading posts about diving there.

If that poster thinks the lumbering Tango from Dive Paradise [I dove from this seacow of a boat in Feb] is a fast boat that should give you an indication of what they know, or, rather, what they don't know. Again, if you are a beginer diver, with not too much dive experience, then Dive Pradise is OK for you, but if you have experience and are not a new diver you'll want to look elsewhere.

What I found especially annoying about Dive Paradise boats is, even though they had a Dive Op at Hotel Cozumel they were the last boats to pick up their divers. All the other dive boats got to the dock before them so we were the last divers, usually, to leave the dock. Not only were the boats slow but they left later.

Some like the fast boats, some like the slow.

Tomayto, tomahto....

Ain't this horse dead yet? ;^)
