The town has been empty this weekend despite nice weather following the Thur/Fri storm. Antonio's closed by 8:30 tonight... what's with that? El Galleon had only a few for karaoke and last call was just after 10:00.

This place is like a ghost town. Why? Everyone spend all their $$$ over the holidays?

Went to the dive park. Only two folks I recognized. There were several Asian lovelies, but they were most likely too young for me. The sun was shining... divers sunbathing in the warmth (this IS January, right?). But very few divers. Heck "our" dive boat hasn't even gone out this weekend.

So what's with you "Big Islanders" (mainlanders)? I'm sure the diving in Laguna or Marineland or San Diego can't be that good! Come on over... it's getting mighty lonely out here in paradise!

What have the temps been like around 60 feet? (June's a mighty long way's away... August/September's even further! ;))

My regs are being serviced; my HID Light is being repaired (flood); and I'm currently recovering from another bout of Dengue Fever after a Philippines/Indonesia Trip last month (damn mosquitos! Damn them all to hell!) . . .

Definitely will be there the last weekend of this month, with Karl & the Crew at Big Fisherman's Cove, doing Chamber Duty for my Hyperbaric Technologist Internship. . .

Last time I dove (Dec 31st), temperatures at 60 ft were 59-60 F. I'm diving today, but my download computer isn't functioning and I won't be able to determine temperature until it is functioning.

Dengue fever, Kevrumbo... yikes. Have a good weekend at Big Fisherman. Say hi to Lorraine Sadler for me.

57 degrees at 62' yesterday (Sunday). I was one of the very few divers there teaching an AOW class. The current was outrageous until 12:30PM or so, but it was great after that. We did do Antonio's...glad we were able to help them out some.

Finally did my first dive of the new year... in the Park. Current was blazing from 11:00 to 12:30 (the duration of my dive). Maybe you guys and gals were right to stay home and watch the playoff games! Actually there were a few old friends at the Park so I enjoyed the surface interval.

Dear friend, maybe we just outta grab a boat and head out for the "SI only with Dr. Bill" (not) dive. We forget how beautiful Catalina can be as we are humping tanks down the boardwalk!

Looking at the calender my friend,

Bill any recomendations on a diver frendly place to stay in Avalon?

Dave

Dave... Depends on your desired level of creature comforts. The Hermosa Hotel is inexpensive, clean but more European (sometimes a shared bath). Seaport Village is a more comfortable choice, especially if you come with family or a small group. Check the "sticky" on Catalina that's in the SoCal forum too.
