GSBs (better known as fairly large polka-dotted wreckfish) are getting ready to depart for the winter. We did see seven on my last dive at depths between 60 and 70 fsw. Kelp is usually healthiest toward the south end of the dive park as it gets pulses of cool water when the winds blow from the south and bring cold water from the deep harbor mouth into the park.

I didn't see much kelp to the left of the stairs, but it is growing, about 5 ft long strands here and there.

To the left of the stairs the sand begins much shallower than to the right. Therefore the only rocky surfaces for kelp to attach to are in shallow water where they get battered by storms. Kelp is almost always best out by the Suejac where colder, deep water gets pushed into the park from the harbor mouth during periods of SE winds.
