Hi my name is Eric i am a newbie on the post and average a couple dives a year Catalina is my go too spot I was wondering if the vis is good in July my usual time is in sept and may

You might PM Catalina residents who dive the island frequently like Dr. Bill for perspectives. Catalina dive shops will also give you a good idea about what's currently going on with the viz. Conditions can change quickly; the Pacific Ocean is a dynamic environment. There may be seasonal trends, but there are never any guarantees.

AZTinMan gave you the best answer... conditions may have general trends seasonally but weather is not always predictable and therefore may affect what we would normally expect in a given month. For example, temperatures have been unseasonably low this July and we even had rain a few days ago thanks to the spillover from a tropical storm coming up into AZ from Baja. Vis has varied from about 70 ft to 5 ft.

FWIW - Did the afternoon run yesterday on Sundiver Express. Did Goat Harbor, then a spot called Fishcount. Goat - Water was very warm, blue, 50 ft vis average (more here, less there), and multiple GBSB the entire dive. Spent some quality face to face time with a pair of them for at least five minutes:) I did have a first on this dive; had never heard them "boom". I've seen/heard Goliath Grouper do it before, (Florida), but never a Black Sea Bass. Fishcount - Arguably, now one of my favorite spots on the Island. Tons of batrays, schools of barracuda white sandy bottom and unique reefs spread about. Caribbean-ish, if I may. Again, vis was off the hook, warm water and very blue.

Just was there yesterday..conditions mediocre BUT a large (is that redundant?) GSB flashed by in kelp bed about half way down mole. Air-filler guy directed me there and sure enough.

I was there on the 18th, and we had 15-20 ft viz of green-milky water, just like most of this year. That is how fast things change.
