Like Dr. Bill said, you can do hundreds of dives at Casino Point Dive Park and you wouldn't see the same thing. It's not a big dive spot, but there is a lot of things to see.
If you can't get on a dive boat operated by either Scubaluv or Catalina divers Supply, then consider taking a ferry to Two Harbors and maybe do a beach dive there.
Shore diving on Catalina Island is limited because of access. The majority of the dive spots are only reachable via boat. Some of the beaches don't allow for SCUBA.
Another option is to go to the island and check out the various kayak rental joints to see if they have kayaks big enough to haul your dive gears in. That way you can paddle to a local spot and go for it.
My personal suggestion is just to stick with the dive park. There's plenty to see at Casino Point.
