robint,
You can't underestimate how awesome Seaport is for divers, they pick you up at the ferry dock, just let them know what boat you are on. Then all weekend long they will take you and your bags back and forth to the point all day long with just a cell phone. And they have a hotel jacuzzi that is a divers best friend! We use Seaport once a month diving the island and would never even consider staying anywhere else. Make sure you ask for a room with a fridge. Free divers breakfast too (scrambled eggs, tots, Egos, potaoes, apples, cold cereal, coffe, tea and juice. Is it fancy.....not even close to fancy. But if you want a hotel that has a storage room for tanks, and specially made it's showers big enough and heartily tiled to wash/rinse your wet suit and gear and where you can hang your gear out to dry along with all the other divers and not worry about getting your gear stolen....this is a divers paradise.

Thanks, it sounds perfect! We don't like fancy... dragging wet dive gear through a fancy hotel rooms is stupid and makes me feel guilty. And since we are only in the room to shower and sleep, who needs fancy?

I am really excited about the trip.... just gotta convince the husband, and pick the dates. We are probably going to fly out using a couple of Southwest free flights we have earned. Woo hoo.

Hey DeerCreekers:
Is the breakfast you are referring to only on the weekends? I have heard that during the week days it is only toast, tea, and coffee.
Also in regards to the rinse area. I know h20 use in Catalina is tight, any problems with rinsing all your stuff?
Do you tip the driver who picks you up at the ferry or takes you back and forth to the park?
Robin, I'm sure there would be several SB'ers that would love to join you and your husband for some diving when you guys are here.

Whenever I've stayed there midweek, they fed me the full breakfasts.

No mention of any water restrictions when I was hosing off my gear.

And .. not to mention that they have an elevator so you don't have to lug your gear up and down stairs

yes, I tip the driver, every time ... grateful to have him

When we lived in Socal and would make a weekend trip to Catalina Seaport is where we would stay. Ithas been over 5 years but I am sure it is a nice now asthen. They are very customer oriented in giving you lifts to/from the dock and to Casino Point, and yes, we would always tip the driver (and sometimes the front desk clerk when they were overly helpful).

No worries about water; always tip the drivers (sometime right on the stop or at the end of the trip) and that breakfast has been the same breakfast for seems like forever

A couple of more questions for those who have used the Seaport Village Inn.
Will the driver pick you up on the early boat arrival at 0730 and take you straight to the park? Or is this to early for them.
Does a $5 tip for the trip from the ferry to the hotel, and say $2 from the dive park to the hotel reasonable?
Sounds like for booking it is best to call direct and ask for the divers rate.

Blue Steal-we usually takethe earliest boat over and it's never a problem, they always pick us up and are actually waiting for us. And ya, they will take u right to the park. They've even dropped us off at other locations in town (Vons for snacks). And btw, I've had trouble with the on line reg and I also always call and ask for Roul and ask for the divers discount. Make sure u impute their phone number into ur cell when you get to the point (park) so u can call for a pick up.

Well, our plans to come out to Catalina for a nice dive trip this summer have been squashed. Our daughter's car died, of course we had to help her pay for repairs. Then she had a blow-out, we bought her 2 new tires. Last week she was in an accident (partially her fault, $500 deductable that she is stuck with but car-less for a week during repairs).... sigh. I wanted to give her money towards buying a nice used car over a year ago but she wanted to keep the old car so she wouldn't have any car payments. So $2000 later for us, she is still in the old car and we are going to have to skip our Calif summer trip AGAIN. Grrrrr. I should have put my foot down, but got overruled by husband and daughter. Grrrrrr.

oh well.... so unless we win some money in the lottery, no Calif trip. :crying2:
