Last weekend, I did my first dive of the year, indeed, my first dry dive since last spring, at Casino Point. My dive club normally does this as a way of getting in a dive or two to test out anything new we may have received over the holidays and ease our way back into the water. This way, if anything goes wrong or we are missing something, we aren't stuck out on a boat all day, not able to dive.

I was all suited up, almost ready to go, when I figured out what that nagging, "I know something's missing..." feeling was. No drysuit inflator hose. Stupid, I know, but it had been quite a while. Normally, there would be an extra in my bag, but having moved twice over the summer, I've discovered a lot of things are not where they should be. What to do!?!

I went over to the CDS van to see if they might have one to rent or sell to me, and much to my great surprise, they had one that they LENT me. Yes, I said LENT, as gave me temporarily with no money involved. I was amazed! Once again, thanks, guys, you made my dive day.

I was there in September diving with them, they were really good. I even have one of there Licence plate frames on my Jeep.

BTW they had such a great influence on me I used Catalina in my nickname here. I already returned in November and will hopefully do so again.

A quick True story:

Catalina is such a friendly and honest place. I dropped my coat on the street in November with my Wallet and Cell Phone in it. I was freaking out, I returned to my hotel lobby to call in my credit cards. While I was waiting on hold iin the Hotel Lobby, the Sherrif's Office called into the Lobby to Say they had my coat and phone etc....
When I got it back(5 minutes later) there was not even a dime missing(there was over $400 in Cash in my wallet). From the time I lost the Coat to the time I got it back may have been 30 minutes. Where else in America could this happen.

Sorry for the long winded story....Your post reminds me why I'll be going back to Catalina soon.:D

Darn... I didn't even think to look for a wallet in the coat when I found it!

Seriously, glad you got it back with everything intact. One of the benefits of living in a small town. However, two divers had their gear stolen this weekend (one Sunday night and the other Monday) so you still need to keep an eye on things even here.

And kelpmermaid, we realize that many divers are here from the mainland or even farther away. If something happens gear-wise, they can't just drive back home to pick up the needed equipment. Wish mainland LDS'es were as thoughtful when Catalina divers are over there (I'm sure many are... I just haven't met them yet).

I thought you hadn't dove the mainland since 1960 something?

Sssshhh this is one of the last "best kept secrets" Catalina has lots to offer but I for one say let the "masses" stay on their boats. It leaves more room for the rest of us, not to mention helps keep the vis. picture quality. LOL
And if there is anything you need on the mainland try New England Divers in Long Beach,
new owner treats you like family. And everyone is their best customer no matter how small the transaction.
