Has anybody checked on the condition of the Sue Jac? And has the kelp made any kind of comeback since the fall?

Suejac looked fine when I dove it a week ago and the kelp is trying to make a feeble comeback in that area of the park, but most at depths below the Sargassum or in the few small open spaces in it where sunlight penetrates to the substrate

Here are two public links to two of my Facebook albums showing the damage to the park and harbor:

Thanks for sharing the pics, Doc. Incredibly heart breaking to see!

Any progress update with the on-going restoration?

I'll be there at the end of this month. Will be sure to document with pics to share.

Dive park boundary buoys have been repositioned and new chains added. Damaged portion of the seawall has been covered with K-rails. Park is quite diveable although entries and exits are a bit more difficult on the stairs due to the missing lower portions of the railings.

Bill, I see that Step Beach is closed for the clean up "Due to safety reasons". Any idea why that is? I would think that area would need the most help.

I'm assuming it is because there are still pieces from the wreck of the King Neptune there that might cause safety issues

Thanks Bill. Maybe we need a 3rd cleanup day sometime at a later date.

Monthly clean-up would be great! I have fond memories of Catalina. I hope to dive it soon! Now that I'm a diver, I use my shell mesh bag, that came w my BC, to pickup trash when I can.
