Has anyone done this event within the last couple of years? Is it as much of a zoo, cluster you-know-what as lots of people say? Interested in checking it out, and supporting a good cause, but not at the expense of dealing with a herd of people.

:hmmm: Probably be a good idea if you ask a Mod to move this to the Southern Calf forum for better coverage.

yeah...i'll get right on it.

I believe there are two threads on this already. Yes, there can be a number of divers involved but as you mentioned, it is for a good cause and a good opportunity for comraderie as well.

I cover it as the underwater reporter and photographer for one of the local newspapers. Great fun!

"number" of divers translates to ? 500? 1000? ... are their so many beginners that the bottom is silted up in the first 5 minutes of the dive? Can you give a run down of activities and logistics drbill please, if you don't mind.

Keep in mind that the bottom of Avalon Bay is covered with silt and fine sand over much of it. No question that the vis can get quite dicey once the divers are in the water. Last year I actually had a mooring chain fall over my body as I was on the bottom looking at something. I knew immediately what it was, and that it would rise with the mild swell, but it could have surprised someone not familiar with the harbor itself. Vis was 0-0 at that point.

Still can be a lot of fun. I would think the clean-up info on the CCD web page would offer all you need to know.

well...500 or more divers in a confined area? good cause but i'm going to pass. not interested in staying overnight, getting drunk or gluttoney...
