Hi,
We're going to be heading to Catalina Island from April 4 to April 9 - so we'll be diving april 5,6,7 and 8.

We were planning on diving the Casino Park for at least 2 of the days, and probably 3, and then doing a (hopefully 3 tank) boat dive on one day.

Is 3 dives at the Casino too much, and should I consider doing two days of boat diving?

For the boat dives, what sights would you recommend I try and get the boat to go to - preferably something that's different that what I'll see at Casino.

Which boat dive place do you recommend - Scuba Luv or Catalina scuba?

Thanks!

Darryl

Cynde:
Darryl, there is a lot to see at the park, so diving three dives there wouldn't be too much. We like Suba Luv :-)

Thanks - we'll be diving for 3 days, so between 6 and 9 dives there . . .that still not too many?

if I were you I'd do at least 2 days of boat diving... the dive park is nice, but 3 days of diving at the dive park is a lot...imho

farnsworth, ship rock, little farnsworth are good places to go...if you can get the boat to go there....

many boats out of avalon do only 2 dives, check to see if they will do 3. try to get on a boat without students.

hope this helps

With some 1,200 dives in the Casino Point Dive Park alone, I still find things to see there. It has a lot of diversity for those who look closely.

However, if you're making the trip down here, I'd recommend at least a day (preferably two) on board one of our dive boats. My preference is SCUBA Luv's King Neptune because they almost always do three dives, have much better food, and have an enclosed cabin in case the weather is not SoCal Chamber of Commerce quality (which it may not be).

Do they have a scheduled list of sites they go to, or does in depend on what the divers request?

Darryl

The King Neptune goes to the best sites feasible at the time... depends on nature of the divers (classes? beginners? advanced?) and prevailing dive conditions (vis, current, etc.) so no fixed sites each day.

Hmm, I'll guess I'll see what they have planned when I want to go. If we only end up boat diving one day then I'm not sure I want to with a class or beginners - I'd rather go to a bit more of an advanced site and see something different . . .

Hello,

The park is great you will love it.

For boat dives here is one vote for Ship Rock and one vote for Hen Rock.

Ship rock is really beautiful with lots of fish - base of rock to over 130 FSW.

Hen rock is more shallow but lots of fun - huge rocks to play around - from shallow to about 85 FSW.

Pretty much anywhere will be fun. Enjoy your stay.

I just did 10 dives in the park in 3 days. Actually, two of those dives were on the Valiant - but I'm a freak that way.

I've got hundreds of dives in the park, and I see different things each time. Heck, we saw some nudi's I've never seen in the park before, a couple of hours later I went with DrB to go see them.... GONE. I mean, they're nudis... they don't move all that fast.

The park changes every day. I love it. We'll see 6 eels, three octos and swell sharks in the morning, and in the afternoon over the same route we'll see none - but we'll find all new stuff!
