It was a blast! I did three dives. The second dive was definitely epic. Visibility was around 50 feet, although it's hard for me to tell. I shore dive so much 40 foot + vis looks like 100 foot vis to me. We got permission to dive the Valiant, the 193' wreck outside the park in 90 feet of water. One memory that stands out in my mind was the descent. I have never dove with such a large group divers before(atleast 8). It was cool to look over and see Elena and everyone else dropping down in the Catalina blue water. The wreck was impressive. It laid on it’s side and was covered in reef growth, sea fans, and kelp. On the way back we found a big angel shark in the sand. A little ways passed him Bob and I spotted a mantis shrimp out of it’s den. Both the angel shark and the mantis shrimp were a first for me.
It was an awesome dive and a great day.

geez, I am so jealous! I have yet to see an angelshark or mantis shrimp! I need to get back out there.

what was the water temp? I have a drysuit but since we have only been to Calif in summer, I have only used my 7mm. What do you think water temp at the Park would be in March? We might have to do a quick weekend trip out. :D

In March, Casino Point water should be around mid-50s.

I've only seen TWO mantis shrimps and TWO angelfish sharks.

Interesting... I've never seen a mantis shrimp inside the park (which doesn't mean others haven't).

We're lucky Elena's farewell happened that weekend... so far you can't even get a commercial passenger boat to Catalina given the weather this week, and the road to and from the Cabrillo Mole boat terminal is closed even to pedestrian traffic!

That day Charlie and the gang saw a Mantis shrimp in the sand coming back from the Valiant, but that is technically not in the park.

Sightings of Mantis shrimp, Angel sharks, Pacific Electric rays and the illustrious Dr.Bill! What a day to be working:cussing:
