Well, the wife and I made it over to the Point for our first dives off Catalina in a little over a year. It was a nice day, the Point was crowded even with the snorkelers around.
We didn't get our first dive in until after 1 PM because the wife had some equipment problems that required her to rent gear from the shack. But finally we hit the water and cruised thru the kelp. Such a beautiful world it is, if only the water wasn't so cool. We sort of become WWWs.
Anyway on the first dive we got down to 48 feet, water temp was 64 but viz really was bad compared to what we had experienced in the past at Catalina. Probably about 25 feet n most areas but out near the outer part of the park, near the Valiant it was a little better.
The second dive we had to cut short because we needed to turn in her rental gear by 4PM so we only had about 1/2 hour bottomtime. Max depth was right at 40 ft and the water temp was the same.
On the first dive we noticed a plaque, other than Cousteau's don't remember seeing it before and was wondering if some of the regulars would know when it was placed. It was dedicated to "El" somebody or other. It is in the west/north section of the park where the reef gives way to the sandy bottom.
Saw the typical marine life, was hoping to see a GSB but not this trip.
The highlight of the day (other than getting wet finally) was meeting the resident Doc in his fine digs. It was a pleasure meeting Bill.
After a fine dinner at El Galleon and a very nice martini it was back on the Express for the trip home.
I dove with my farmer john 3 mil, I think next time I might have to take my 7. I got a little chilled on the second dive.
