Just returned from our first trip to Cozumel and as we had read on Scuba Board it was awesome! We dove with Blue XT~Sea Diving and stayed at the Casa Mexicana.

Diving

After reading the many good things all of you had to say about Blue XT~Sea Diving I contacted Christi. She was awesome from the beginning! She helped my wife (Paula) and I set up both the diving and the hotel (Casa Mexicana). In setting up the diving and accomadations Christi was very responsive, polite, and professional.

The great service continued throughout the diving trip. The Shamu was very nice, always on time, and extremely fast, we passed many boats on the way to the dive sites and were most of the time the first ones on the reef. Christi's staff was also great. Boat Captain Mago has some wonderful magic tricks that kept us entertained during the surface intervals. Dive Masters Pedro and Javier were awesome. They both had the ability to find many different creatures we wanted to see. I don't know how Javier does it, but he dives only in his swim trunks, my wife and I had on 5mm wetsuits (We must be wimps).

The sites we visited were as follows: Palancar Caves, Yacab, Santa Rosa Wall (Twice, Our group of divers enjoyed it so much we went back the second day, Awesome), Chankanaab, Paradise (Night Dive, Awesome!!), and Punta Tunich.

We also met two nice couples from Pittsburgh that were fun to dive with!!

Hotel

Casa Mexicana was great!! I think the 3 words to best describe it are clean, clean, and clean. There was not a time when you walked through the hotel that there was not someone scubbing away. It was also nice that the entire hotel has filtered water. My wife and I both were able to drink it with no problems. We had an ocean view room that was very spacious and did I mention clean?? The one very small gripe I would have was that the beds were a little firm, but that is being picky. Breakfast was included with the room. It was a full breakfast, made to order omlettes, pancakes, fruit, you name it. I would be remiss if I did not mention how great the orange juice was!! The location was very nice as well. Casa Mexicana is located within walking distance of many things in town, I believe we only took a cab once, the rest of the time we were able to walk to our destination.

Overall, it was a great place to stay.

Food

I will just mention the food was great. We ate at Especias, La Choza, Prima, and had room service from the hotel. All of the restaurants were wonderful and it would be tough for me to pick a favorite.

Overall, the trip was great (it could have been longer)! I would highly recommend Blue XT Sea Diving and the Casa Mexicana.

Javier doesn't dive in swim trunks, it called a speedo! Is Casa Mexicana downtown?

Si.

Yes, Casa Mexicana is downtown. The entrance is right next to the Lapis rug store. You are correct, it is a Speedo.

Glad to hear you had a good time. I am heading down in June. Same hotel, same dive-op. I can't wait! Was there much construction nerar the hotel? Where did Blue XT-Sea pick you up?

Yeah In 75 degree water! He wore a wetsuit one day... when we did 4 dives!

I won't make the obvious Cockatoo joke :crafty:

I stayed a Casa Mexicana last Dec and was very impressed, by both the cleanliness and friendliness of the staff. The breakfast was good too. Because of this and it's location, I will definately stay here again. I've been to Cozumel 5 times in the last two years and have dove with Dive Paradise and Caribbean Divers with no problems. I met Christi last year and she's a wonderful person and really cares about customer service. I hope to be able to dive with her operation on my next trip this Dec.

The Aldora Divers pier about a block from the hotel.

Even calling it a speedo is pretty generous - more like a french cut speedo.
