Hey everyone -

Looks like I may be in Carlsbad for a conference in early November and I'd like to get an idea of options for getting in the water over the weekend of November 4th and 5th.

Any suggestions? I don't even know where to start.

Thanks

Brian

Hey Brian, I live near Carlsbad and I do shore dives at La Jolla Shores in San Diego or in Laguna Beach. Another option would be to take one of the dive boats out of San Diego that weekend to dive wreck alley, the Point Loma kelp beds or the Coronado Islands. Or you could even head north and take a dive boat out of Long Beach or San Pedro to dive Catalina. Hope that gets you started!!

I agree with the Rat :D For local shore diving, head to La Jolla Shores (25-30 min South of Carlsbad) and dive the canyon or Marine Room. For local boat diving, you can go check out the Yukon and Ruby E (wrecks), the kelp beds, or take a 90 min boat trip to the Coronados (in Mexican waters). Most local boats leave from Mission Bay, which is about 40 or so min South of Carlsbad..
Catalina Island has a little bit of everything all in one spot- wrecks, kelp, reefs, and usually better vis.. but you'll need to drive north to Dana Point or Long Beach to catch the boat to the island. If you have the time, definitely check out Catalina...

Awesome! Thanks for the suggestions and links. I'll start doing some research.

Given the choice, what would you do if you had 2 days to spend either boat or shore diving?

Boat for sure Brian! You'll almost always have better vis.
