Very comprehensive report on the poor health of the Caribbean reefs. Contrary to popular belief climate change is less of a driver for the reefs' decline than is overfishing, excessive tourism development, and coastal pollution which has led to large drops in populations of the important grazers,...sea urchins and parrotfish.

Cozumel's % reef coverage has declined 50% over the study period.

From despair to repair: Dramatic decline of Caribbean corals can be reversed | Mission Blue

Biggest problem I have encountered has been reefs covers in macro-algae.
