i've not been out of hatteras, but you might get more responses if this were in the nc area. ask a mod to move it if you wish.

now, morehead, wilmington, and nags head...those i could tell you about!

The diving is usually fantastic, or at least I think so. I use Outer Banks Diving in Hatteras.
Their web sit is www.outerbanksdiving.com
It can be totally different to any diving you have done before. The ocean can be slick as glass or 3-4 ft seas. If you don't have much experience I would suggest considering hiring a dm as a guide. If you call the shop, Amy will give you the straight scoop on everything. Most of their weekends are booked already I'm sure but you can call and get any free dates from them.

PM me if you have any questions and I'll give you the straight scoop on what's happening most of the time.

The diving out of Hatteras is incredible for NE/NC diving. You have many options available to you as far as wrecks and several boats to get you there......you will have a hard time beating the Proteus or the other wrecks in the general area.....if you're up for serious tech dives the U701 sets 3 hours off shore waiting for someone to snag her..........we've been there and due to 5 foot seas and whipping current could not grapple her.

The dives provided by Johnny and Amy on the Flying Fish cannot be beat and those of JT and NAncy on the Under Pressure are second to none.

Most dives are between 100 and 130, viz is good 30 to 80 and bottom temp is easy. lots of sharks and artifacts remain to be found.

what more are you looking forl? Mermaids dont exist.

I have to agree, Cape Hatteras, NC is great diving. I have dived many times with Outerbanks diving...good outfit all around. Great boat crew and captain...they are extremely helpful with all divers. The wrecks are always good. I still want to get out to the U701.

I prefer Hatteras over Morehead given the nicer beach community, nicer area etc.

Just my 02

I'd concur. I was on John and Amy's Flying Fish at the Proteus on 6/19 and we saw lots of Sand Tigers, probably 30 or so on the wreck. It was an awesome dive, 76 degrees, unlimited vis, about a 1.5 to 2 knot current. There were only eight of us on the boat. I'll definitely use Outer Banks Diving again.
