Are there any Cape Cod divers that are interested in possibly starting a local dive club? I've been mulling over this for a while now and I figured I'd put the word out to any interested parties.

I would love to see a club established that promotes diving on the cape and supports the local dive shops as well. My thoughts are that a club would be the best way to find dive buddies and share experiences of diving on the cape.

I know that there are certain issues pertaining to dive clubs (legal, etc..) and I'm not quite sure how to turn the idea into reality. Has anyone tried to form something on the cape before? Does anyone have experience in starting a dive club? Thanks.

Let me know your thoughts. Please email me if anyone is interested. jbgarran@cape.com

Count me in! I'm a new diver and plan on diving the cape a lot this summer. I usually spend many summer weeks living on my boat in Falmouth ( Waquoit Bay,) and I'm looking for others on the cape to dive with, so count me in!

I'm in too. My in-laws have a couple places on cape (Dennisport) so I'm usually there most weekends. I usually take at least one week off or try to work from there when my wife and kids are staying there. Shore diving is limited. (Giant Sand bar) This summer, anxious to try Woods hole/Garbage Beach. Alan (Adshepard), when you are going again, let me know! Johns and Sheeps pond area other sites willing to try. Also, have heard Bass River is a great drift dive. Can find lots of old artifacts on bottom. Of course can only dive this off season when no boat traffic.

Hathaway pond is a nice dusk/night dive on a hot summer night or early AM.

re: Club, I think just having a thread on this board devoted to Cape diving wee could all periodically check would be sufficient. Anyone visiting cape and looking for buddy should continue to post message. Likewise, anyone that dove Cape, share their experience.

John, if you plan to go out and ever need a deck hand/dive sherpa.. let me know! Dive charters on cape are limited. Send me a PM! I'll help w/ fuel, or anything.

It's good to hear from some of you. I'll have to start making posts whenever I am planning on doing a dive.

I would still like to get a club going, even it's just for the social aspect of meeting other divers in the area.

I'll try and keep this post alive and kicking.

Be sure to post when the ponds start to unfreeze down there. I'm injured right now, but, as soon as the ice is gone I'll probably be spending alot of time on the cape.

The only wrecks I have dove on the cape are the "wreck" at Hathaway's Pond and the Target Ship. The target ship is actually an excellent dive that I think is underrated.

There are several wrecks off of Monomoy island that are supposed to be interesting, but from what I understand the wrecks can get buried or unburied from year to year depending upon how the sand shifts. I'm sure there are some people here who have dove on those wrecks.

I keep my boat in Eel River on the other side of the island from you. There are at least three wrecks with in four (estimate) miles of the mouth of the river. I have only managed to find two of them one was marked (Port Hunter); the other one by the lighthouse was luck because I have not found it since. There is a bunch out by the Elizabethan Islands as well. You have to dive them at slack tide or things turn ugly fast.

No matter what you do, make sure you hook up with Mike over at The Dive Locker in Hyannis. He and his homeboys know more about South Shore wreck and shore diving than just about anyone I know.

I know he uses Cape Cod Bay Charters a lot for boat diving, and they are very, very active from shore as well.

What did you think about the Port Hunter? I was going to dive her while I was on the Vinyard last summer, but, I wasn't able to. Is she a nice dive?
