Hello:

I was thinking of going somewhere for diving next month and was wondering what Cape Ann is like towards the end of May? I dive dry so temperature is not as much a concern but I wanted to do photography so vis and marine life is important. I was told that summer months have bad vis but great marine life and winter months have great viz but no marine life. Is that true? What kind of vis / marine life can I expect to see over the long weekend 25, 26 , 27 of May?

Regards -

CS

Visibility is definitely variable. About ~15ft in Cape Ann last week. Not always bad in summer but it's true it is usually better in the winter. Still not as much marine life in May but it will slowly start coming back.

Water should be high 40s/low 50s. It was 44-45f today.

I'll second macado's post. Visibility is usually 12-18' depending on the site and if it's a shore or boat dive.

When it gets closer to your trip post again and we'll be able to update you with the conditions. There are many of us that dive here quite frequently.

Thanks so much for the info guys. I can either come next month or beginning of July. Do you guys think July will be better in terms of marine life and macro photography? Will it still hold 15 ft visibility or does the vis drop even further?

I would probably say July would be better. Visibility will be about the same but again that varies. Could be 5ft or 25ft, never know.

Macro photography is actually pretty good in winter colder months too. Lots of nudibranchs
