Can't upload my initial profile photo

I've watched the Help video on profile changes, including putting in a profile photo. I click on the link to select a photo on my computer (I've followed the directions requiring a very small jpg file), I pick the jpg file, I click on Save Changes, and nothing happens (except the transport type messages bottom left). What am I doing wrong?
