I am having a dilemma! I have decided to give up my Powershot A95 and Wp-Dc50 for an upgrade. I narrowed it down to two choices. 570is with WP-DC-12 or the G9 with WP-DC20. I know the G9 is the better camera and I like how it shoots Raw and movies in AVI format. On the other hand I like that the 570is can zoom in movie mode. I primarily get about 20 photo dives a year. I usually mix stills and movies. I like putting together slide shows and calendars--things of that sort. I am by far an armature shooter and have been shooting about 3yrs. I am not to par with changing F-stops and ISO's. Now the hard part is I can not afford a new G9 but can afford new 570. Plus if I get the 570 I might be able to afford an Inon wide angle lens definitely can't if I get G9. What a dilemma. Also I have a sealife universal digital strobe that hooks up through a fiber optic cable. Can anyone please give some advise or some sample pics. Thanks for all the help.

Both cameras are discontinued. N

yea but I can get both through Ebay or Amazon. Also would an Inon WA lens do any good for these cameras. My understanding is that I could get closer meaning less backscatter.

Thanks

If you find a 570 and then the DC12 housing then yes the Inon AD165FE would be a huge advantage. Love mine.

In this case, YES.

Another thing to consider is that the G9 has a long lens (6x zoom) and the housing a long lens barrell. That means at the widest position you get some pretty strong vignetting (black corners) in the pictures with a WA lens. To resolve this, the Ikelite and Patma housings came out using shorter lens ports that limit the zoom range of the camera, but help in eliminating the vignetting.

Point is if you get the G9 and the canon housing, you'd still need an adapter to mount a WA lens on it, but the lens will not be as useful since you still have to zoom in a bit to get rid of the vignetting.

The 570 & canon housing do not have this problem. You just need to get the appropriate adapter for the lens you want to use (AD or threaded) and you'll be set.

You can cheat the A570is by putting the chdk hack to shoot in RAW. That is what I did, unfortunately my drysuit neck suit got ripped so didn't get a chance to use it.
