Canon 450D versus Canon 40D - HELP!

Thanks to all for the great insights! I am now the proud owner of the D40, next phase is housing & strobe. I am leaning heavily towards the Ikelite and would love any more info / advice / thoughts on strobe configurations etc.

congrats on what I assume is the 40D! My second 40D has shipped so I am very happy!

Ike is great. I shoot Subal. Pricier, but fit my needs/wants better.

There's plenty of other great housings out there for the 40D as well (I've been doing the same research). Have a look at the ali housings by Aquatica, Sea & Sea, Subal and the soon to be realeases Nexus. All more expensive, but may be worth it.

Someone mentioned some of the US based retailers your other topic, might be worth asking them about it (assuming you're based in the US?) - Backscatter : Underwater Camera, Underwater Video Housing, Underwater Photography, Waterproof Camera & Reef Photo & Video!, The Underwater Photo Pros.

Wetpixel.com :: Underwater Photography and Videography has a lot of info on this stuff too.

Just remember the old adage - every camera housing floods. It's not a question of whether, but just when. Don't take down anything you couldn't afford to lose. I like and use expensive DSLRs, but underwater I use a compact. A good compact, but still a compact, and I can get results as good as many people using gear that cost 10 times as much.

That's where flood insurance comes in. It's one thing to say compacts can get as-good-as results, but even my current compact setup has cost me a couple of grand already, and I'm now finding I'm wanting to move beyond it towards something that will give me for flexibility.

And, I've also never had a flood in a couple of hundred dives with a camera. I know it will happen one day, but I try to be prepared for that. And right now, I'm knocking on wood as hard as I can!

Just my 2c worth though!
