I am at wit's end. I have a new AA Ultraclear mask. Fit is fantastic. Low volume is awesome. But I cannot get this thing to stop fogging underwater. I have scrubbed it with toothpaste and SoftScrub. I've used two different types of anti-fog underwater to no avail. I really do not wish to use a flamethrower but if I can't get this to stop fogging up, I'm going to have to return it to Atomics. Any help appreciated...

Cigarette lighter method works. The carbon in the soot produced will get shot of the film causing the fogging. Just don't get too close to the skirt with the flame.

I had a mask I could't seem to get to not fog (years of various products).... Tried Mcnett Sea Buff Mask Precleaner &Slate Cleaner, and I use "500 PSI Mask Defog" - been very happy since....

I had a Sub-Frame ultra clear that I had the same problem with a couple of years ago. I didn't try the flame technique, I contacted Atomic and sent it to them. They did an ultrasonic cleaning, what ever that is, and sent it back to me. I never had any trouble with it fogging after that.

Thanks for advice re: Ultrasonic cleaning. If possible, I think that I'm going to send back to Atomics and get the same done there. Like I said before, I'm no fan of flamethrowers in masks.

At the risk of stating the obvious, new masks offgas from the silicone skirt. If you keep it in the plastic box they come with, it will be worse. I have a couple of AA UCs and if I don't take them out of the box and let them 'breathe' a few days before the dive, they fog. Cigarette lighter treatment does work as stated, otherwise I just use regular spit no defog - hope you can work it out, great masks

Having flamed a number of AA frameless masks, I can say for sure that a few licks of lighter flame isn't going to harm the silicone. If you want to ignore that fact and send it back to AA and see if they'll ultrasonically clean it for you... well, it's your time and money :)

do you by chance exhale through your nose?

I have 4 other masks. My breathing does not appear to affect them...so I'm pretty sure that after >800 dives, my nose is not the issue here!

Nope, never keep my masks in any cases.
