i wanna make myself a dive light. don't have to crazy powerfull but GOOD :cool2:

canister will be a thick walled waterpipe. and i'll make my own battery.

now.... light head, and hid or led :dontknow::dontknow:

i have a 35w car hid kit(h1) i can use..
if i go with it, what kinda head/reflector would i need ?
i wanna go cheap as possible ;) and possible just buy a complete head with reflector.

or should i go for leds ?
if so, is there a decent led light out there, i could maybe mod for a canister pack ?

thanks

LED will be cheaper and easier than HID.

The bicycle Ferei light head is a good candidate for the can light system

ok, just ordered i light like the one in the link i posted.. only at 50usd with whipping.
did also say 1200lumens.. hmmm don't think so :mooner:
but will be a fun build and test i think .. ;)
I'll post more when i get it :cool2:

The Ferei light has a thick lens and we have confirmed that it works...

That one may have a thin lens, we don't know.

The magic shine has a thin lens, and in reviews from MTBX fora, they claim a lot of swarfs in production. Furthermore, the wire coming out of the base does not pass through a cable gland, and as such will be difficult to waterproof. Granted, the Ferei light head does not have a gland either, but the position of the cable, as well as the general build quality of the light head lends itself to being modified for underwater use.

The SSC P7 head has a larger diameter head with a thinner lens, thus making a replacement custom lens a necessity. But if you can get it to work... cool :D

dang, knew i shouldn't have gone cheep !! but done is done i guess. :rofl3:

i think i will make it work tho, if i can't find a decent cable gland like this:

i'll just use a thicker cable, with more leads inside.. i'll figure it out :cool2:

Makeing thicker glass is no problem.
would lexan work maybe :? couse i got some laying around. and how thick glas do i need for, let's say 20-20 meters ?

Check out tlslights.com for that cable gland!

Looks like you may be able to gut the switch out of the back and hopefully it's the right size to where you can thread and fit the gland in or ,ake a plug and thread it to take the gland. Then, plug where the original cable is coming out.
For the lens, have a piece of glass custom cut that is thicker, but the bezel may not fit right... That is going to be the hard part.

Oh, and lexan would work. I would go at least 3mm but 5 would be better!

www.staven.no - DIY Shop

yeah, like you said, thats my plan !
The glass part may be tricky, but im shure i will find a way :)

thaaanks :)

At 20m even the original should be fine. Thicker is better however! It may be a problem using a thicker lens as far as screwing the bezel back on.
