I’m making my first trip to Cancun in early Nov. I have looked at and contacted some of the dive operators there. I have also read reviews. The ones I contacted all seem to be larger operations. I am looking for something smaller and more personalized. I got really spoiled on my last couple of vacations. I was the only one on the hotel dive shop boat in Jamaica and it was just me and the DM making beach dives in St. Thomas. I liked that a lot better than the cattle farm on the boats in the Bahamas and my local guy’s boat. Speaking of shore diving, is there anywhere to do that in Cancun? My wife is not a diver but if there is a good beach to dive from please let me know. Any advice is appreciated.

There's no shore diving in Cancun. The reef is at least a mile out.
Drop a note to Alvaro at AlwaysDiving.com or Ben & Jorge at ScorpioDivers.com
They both are aimed at small groups.

I agree. Ben runs a small operation with personalized service. You tell him what you want and he makes it happen. Less than 8 most of the time, probably six or less. Dive your computer and not the normal in and out with the newbies. Great customer service, pick up and delivery to the hotel....You will not be disappointed!

Hope you have great weather and great diving!

I have used a few different dive operators based out of Cancun before I met Ben. After numerous dive trips I wouldn't trust my diving to anybody but Scorpio Divers. Good luck and have a great trip.

I just got back from Cancun. I dove with the guys at at Nautilus Diving and it was amazing. They never take large groups and the service/attention was extremely personalized. It was myself and 1 other diver the first day and just me the 2nd. I felt like I was diving with old friends rather than guides/instructors by the 2nd day. The weather was pretty bad during my stay but they were on top of it and planned trips to the Cenotes instead. If you've never dove in the Cenotes, it is an AMAZING experience unlike any other. I'd highly recommend Nautilus Diving (cancunscuba.com). They are the top rated dive center on TripAdvisor.com for good reason. Octavio & Juan are great guys. Octavio is awesome at setting up all the arrangements thru email in advance. You can tell them Mike T. from Washington DC sent you!
