In my search for a backplate and wing combination, I came across some of these plastic backpacks that hold just one tank. they are very small and look like they would be perfect in warm water with a small wing. Has anyone done this?

I still need a good backplate because I dive with a drysuit but this sort of combination may work for my wife who only likes to dive in the tropics.

Here's a link to a Seatec system which really looks cool. Can't find anything about it though.

Sure. I've been diving an old At-Pac wing on and old ScubaPro plastic backpack with a pair of I-don't-remember-whose cam bands for years. Works fine for my kind of diving - singles in the tropics. I wouldn't hesitate to strap on doubles with it, but I'm getting too old for anymore decom diving.

a thread about something else turns into a thread about backplates. Just for informational purposes....

How do you figure? From what I read the thread started about a back plate of sorts or something similar.

A plastic backpack is not a metal backplate. Whether it is similar is meaningless as all BC's have a similar function. It is not the same thing. It is something else.

It is not for me to say what is on or off topic, but taking a left turn into BP land does not produce discussion that I find meaningful.

Of course this is just my OPINION, but a plastic back seems to be related very much to a back plate and wings.

Just don't take anything around here personally. We all love diving even though we have differing views on gear, or our approach to diving.

DSAO - dive safe and often.
