I read an article a while back which was a sort of overview of the NOAA Manual (I think it is called). Judging fom the article, it sounded like the NOAA manual is a pretty comprehensive scuba diving guide. A sort of scuba diver's bible, so to speak. Apparently it is updated and re-issued every few years or so and has recently been updated. The article described each chapter of the manual and told where and/or how to get a copy of the book. I've looked all over for that article and I can't find it anywhere. My questions are these. Is the book I'm thinking of in fact called the NOAA manual? Where can I obtain a copy?

It's my favorite and most useful reference. Bob 3 will take orders from time to time and get you a discount off full retail, but he needs at least 5 orders at a time. It's well worth the $.

It sounds like a great resource. It ain't cheap though, is it? Still, I guess I will want to have one. I guess that price is comparable to the cost of a college textbook and it sounds like it is packed with about as much information. I'd like to have a hard bound copy to display on my bookshelves. I'll have to mention it to Santa and see if I can get "her" to get me one for Christmas. :)
Thanks again for the responses.

I have a copy of the 2nd edition and the new 4th edition. Worth every penny of it. I would highly recommend it.

I too think it is worth the $79.00 for the book and it is a great reference book, for your information the topics within the manual include:
History of diving, Physics & Physiology, Decompression, Support Equipment, Surface Supplied Diving and support & training, Dive Planning, Procedures for scientific and working dives, UW support systems, Special Conditions & Contaminated Conditions diving, re-breathers, Nitrox, Mixed Gas & O2 Diving, Diving from Habitats, Hyperbaric Chamber & Support Equipment, Hazardous Marine Animals, Emergency Medical Care, Accident Management & Procedures.
Hope this helps in your decision-making.
