As the post says. I have a new Vyper air and (shocking I know) still have a serial port on my pc and a serial cable from my cobra. Is there any way to get it to work. Suunto's documentation leaves quite a bit to desired.

Any help would be appreciated.

yes, it will work just fine.

No, it actually doesn't work as is. It works just fine with my Viper and with both cobras but doesn't work with the Vyper air. In spite of the computer going into "transfer" mode automatically, the DM software doesn't ever recognize that the computer is connected but returns a "device not found" error. I have tried all the regular trouble shooting things. In researching it, I found others on some other boards with similar issues. What I haven't found is a "solution". Thinking perhaps I am loosing my mind but I will be darned if I will pay Suunto's price for a cable.

What version of the DM are you using if I may ask. The Vyper-air requires 2.7 at minimum and works better with 3.0

If you have an earlier version you can download the newer here:

I just did some looking in the SUUNTO forums and found a post where support says that the newer computers will not work with a serial cable EVEN with a serial to USB converter. I looks like there was a marketing decision made to add a chip in the usb interface to prevent that from working.

Glad my new computer is a SUUNTO...
