Hi henk_graaf,

Welcome to scubaboard. Go for the ATX100! If you have the opportunity to buy a premium regulator go for it. It will be perfectly adequate for your needs, and should your diving career progress to more demanding dives such as colder water or deeper depths, the Apeks will be along for the ride the whole way.

actually,

i am going to buy the ctx100 (this is the atx100 for the german market) and the ct20 for $395.

the LDS said that the ct20 can be upgraded to atx40 by adding a heat exchanger (only $10)

so i can buy the complete package for $405

the titan lx + octo LX is approx. $385 at the lds...

i will check them both

No, If you are getting them for the sme price than I recomend the Apeks line over the Titan line. As bengiddins mentioned it will be better for you when / if you graduate to deeper and or colder dives.

Definately get the heat exchanger. You never know when you'll be here in NJ visiting me and we'll go out for a dive in the cooler Atlantic! :)

SpyderTek.

PS. Just so my "Credentials" are clear... I have not dove either regulator beyond 60 feet. So I am talking from research beyond that point and not first hand experience.

I was testing a BC today in a 15ft pool at the LDS and asked if they had a Titan LX I could try. They put one together on the spot.
I thought it worked great. No honking on the surface and air came really smooth and easily (only to 15ft. of course). LDS recommended it for Non-Technical diving in water above 40 deg.

I'm an old dog and probably will not do Tek stuff so I'll be buying one.

Chalk one up for LDS service.

I'm surprised!

Your LDS wouldn't even give me a price for any reg that wasn't ScubaPro, Even though they are a dealer for several other brands.

That's one of the reasons I went elsewhere.

hmmm. Maybe they're changing their ways.

They've been very accomodating (and very list price) to anything I've asked. They had an LX on the floor and when I balked at the Price for the ScubaPro we started talking about the LX.

I just bought a ScubaPro Accent integrated BC from thier rental equipment (used 3 or 4x) and saved a little money.

Maybe internet pressure has them changing. I'm too new to remember the "old days"
