The same or not, all I really want to know is: How do you like the Titan LX?

I am planning on trying one in the pool next week. If I like it I was going to buy it. It's 15 degrees in upstate NY today so I won't have a chance to dive OW for a while. This will be my first regulator and have been using LDS gear (ScupaPro mk20/S600).

NetPro:)

but one of the members of my Venture crew just bought one. We are going diving/snorkeling tomorrow, so I will try his then. If I can pry it away from him for a couple of minutes. :tease:

NetDoc, I'd be interested to know if you find it stiff and/or noisy when it's breathed dry. Mine is, but seems fine underwater.

Is it worth the money to get the environmental dry kit on the 1st stage?

NetPro:confused:

Well, first off, yes, the LX has a tendancy to "honk" when breathing dry air and not in the water.

Let me preface by saying the following my just be my imagination...

I find that the LX is a very fine regulator but still feels a little "stiff" on the breathing at depths below 25 feet. I get the same feeling from the TX-50 but using the metal venturi knob I am able to adjust this stiffness out on the TX-50.

In my hand the plastic the LX is made out of feels sort of like a toy where as the TX-50 feels like a percision instrument.

I decided to keep the TX-50 and gave the LX to my buddy. The LX is more than enough for most "normal" divers in normal recreational dives.

Spydertek.

PS. My TX-50 also "honked" once on the surface durring it's first use but hasnt honked since.

I'm seems as if the weirdness evidenced when surface breathing new regs is more common than in the past. I have a SP G250HP and AL Cousteau. Both breath a little strange on the surface, but not when submerged where breathing "feel" becomes quite smooth. On the other hand, my old SP adjustable brass second which had always breathed smoothly up or down suddenly began to honk. There was also a slight freeflow. Turned out that the second stage spring was too weak.

Mulling it over, I'm beginning to think that the weak springs commonly used in balanced 2nd's have something to do with this strange surface performance. Possibly the resonance is damped when the diaphragm is reacting against water resistance.

Scubapro warns that their piston 1st stg may honk. They state that the piston stem O ring should be lubed and the HP seat replaced. However, I don't recall ever experiencing this particular problem.

Well, like someone previously said, the older Titan LX is pretty good anyway, but I'd be interested in finding out if there's a new version of this.

In any case, http://www.divernet.com/equipment/1101divertests.htm#titan
has a review, and in my own experience, in "normal" diving, it's been fine. Honked a bit on the surface when new, but now broken in and it doesn't honk anymore.

Hi spydertek,

does this mean that when I can get both regulators for the same price, its better for me to buy the titan lx instead of the atx100?

(i am a recreational diver at this moment)
