Question Can I Salvage My Spring Straps on Scuba Pro Twin Jet Fins

My trusty, 15-year-old Twin Jet Fins are finally wearing out. The outer edge of the bottom corner has started to split along a seam. These have been a great pair of fins for my bad knee.

The question is: If I pitch them, are the aftermarket spring straps removeable and reusable on another pair of Twin Jet split fins? Or are the straps made for a one-time installation? I did not install these originally, so I don't know how to remove the straps.

I should mention I'm on a trip now. I noticed the crack in the fin while packing my dive bag back in the U.S. I threw in my Tusa Hyflex fins for a backup.​

Looks like they are connected to the fins with stainless steel wire. Hold one side of the wire hook in a vise and lift up the other side with a pair of channel lock pliers. You can use the channel locks to squeeze the wire jaws onto the new fins.

BTW the old twin jets are discontinued. You can use the springs on any fin with a similar molded through hole for the buckle.

You can bend those wire retainers out and slide them off the fins. I’m not sure how many bending cycles you get before you’ve significantly weakened the wire, though. All of my current jet-style spring straps (both stock and replacement) are attached with bolts, which makes them easy to replace and change spring lengths.

In any case, since you’re going to throw away those ripped fins, you might as well pull off the springs and see if you have some opportunity to use them in the future
