Hey there,

The wife and I are looking at going out on the Sunfish on the 20th. Can anyone tell me about it? Seeing what appears to be mixed reviews in the archives.

We may also choose the Spectre. What say you?

Thanks!

Rick

I've only been on it once. Capt. Ray was very knowledgeable, if gruff (I have no problem with the latter, esp in light of the former!).

Their compressors had to work to put 3000psi in my tanks... pathetic, in this day and age. My opinion. *shrug*

Aside from that, however, I liked the boat itself quite a bit.

I would choose the Spectre over the sunfish for a few reasons.

Bunks - Its nice to lay down, or at least have the option too.
Galley - Its even nicer to be able to sit down while eating lunch.
Food - Can you really beat tri-tip.
GIANT stride - Nothing like jumping off the Spectre in full gear.

There are more reasons but I should get some work done today.

Just my 2 cents...

Are you sure that you're not talking about the Sundiver and not the Sunfish? ;)

And I highly second Josh's preferences on the Spectre over the Sunfish, so much so I'll be on the Spectre this saturday :D.

Dang it, you're right.

I'm off my game today. Need more coffee... need to avoid writing posts where I very carefully outline the reasons why I wear my computer on the left wrist, compass and watch and light on the right... today must be dyslexic day. :)

Yes - the Spectre puts the "Giant" in Giant Stride...

HOWEVER - don't let a fear of a 3 meter GS dissuade you - you can always climb down the ladder and go off the swimstep and slip in like an alligator.

Best lunch in the fleet.

Compressors to 3000. FAST fills.

Cap't Ted rox. Will go out and get to sites when other boats just can't, as the Spectre was a Rigs Tender in a former life. Think bug, steel commercial working boat, and you get the idea.

If you're still diving wet, the Spectre is your choice. HOT TUB.

Sunfish - nice dive platform. Very wet ride out and back (we call it the "wet fish.") No galley to hide in (a room, sort of) very little room for gear, etc. Its a day boat, not an over-nighter style boat. I've dived it once. I do 20 or more dives off the Spectre every year.

Nobody has mentioned the Peace it's a great dive boat with a ready good crew & it has a hot tub also. The lunch isn't as great as the Spectre but it's close.

I 2nd the Peace and think the food is the best in VC. I wont ever go on the Spectre again. The crew, most especially capt. Ted, is rude and I'm sick of barren sites like goldfish bowl, which ted has taken us to every time I'e been on that boat, which is probably about 10-15 times. I think it's a boat to get your OW cert on and that' about it.

Very much DISliked our one trip on the Spectre. Crew and Captain were less than friendly. I don't eat meat, so tri-tip isn't a winner for me. Fills were lame. Much, much prefered our time on the Peace.
