Hi there,

We have diving and most of the accommodation sorted out for our FL trip next week. Just one thing remains to be settled. We love camping in tents so we would like to spend a night or two outside in tent.

I have my own good quality camping gear in Finland and i could propably just be able to fit it in the luggage. However to make things easy i thought would it be possible to find some cheap camping retailer or multipurpose shop with simple tents and maybe sleeping bags from FL Keys?

I would like to buy some superbasic supercheap tent that i can ditch after the trip, any placa near Florida keys to find something like this, where?

Find closest walmart on the way to the keys and u will have everything cheap
There's 3 on the Dixie Hwy. (State 1) south of the Miami airport on the way to the Keys. And 20 in the Miami/Ft. Lauderdale area. You don't want the Neighborhood Markets - those are typically food stores only. Walmart.com - Store Finder Results

There's also an Outdoor World/Bass Pro shop just west of the Miami Airport. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...gId=10051&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=63&tab=3

And another on I-95 in Ft. Lauderdale about 5mins. from the airport there. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/s...gId=10051&langId=-1&appID=94&storeID=16&tab=3 - open every day except Christmas. I've been there - it's a huge place. Should have everything you need.

There's also a big Divers Direct store next door if you need any dive gear. There's also one in both Key West and Key Largo http://www.diversdirect.com/scuba-dive/dive-shop-fort-lauderdale/

There is actually a "Bass Pro Shops" in the keys on Islamorada. They don't keep camping gear in stock, but you can order the gear on their website and have it shipped to that store for free.

Islamorada, FL (World Wide Sportsman - Islamorada) | Bass Pro Shops 81576 Overseas Hwy. 305-664-4615

They've got a tent for $40 USD

The Walmart in Florida City/Homestead is the last exit on Rte 1 before you hit the stretch to the Keys. Large, well-stocked & visible from the road. Food section too.

Thanks guys! I understood from the website that Walmart is also open 24/7 so I will check it out on my way on Sunday!

Yeah the Walmart in Fl. City is open 24 hours. There is also a Kmart in Key West if you go that far down. There are a couple of nice camp grounds on Sugarloaf Key in case you need one.

walmart would be the cheapest and when you're finished with the gear and you don't want to take any of it back -- donate it to the local homeless shelter down there.

Please. No. We have enough homeless living in the mangroves, and the only place to pitch a tent is in the parks, and we already have plenty of homeless already living in the parks so as to make them unusable to the taxpayers. The homeless in the keys are homeless because they want to be, there is plenty of work for able bodied men and women here, or because they are mentally deficient and need help. Our taxes pay for them to be in a shelter at night, so they aren't wandering the neighborhoods pilfering. Please don't encourage any more homeless to leave the shelter.
