I think you would be quite happy with the Canon S95. The Recsea housing is a choice definitely worth looking at for the ergonomics and build quality.
 
Someone has a fairly new Canon G11 + Canon Case for $450 - check classifieds.

too bad to hear from your flooded camera. since you're a canon-fan i can really recommend you the g-series. at the moment they're i think ~G12. i do use my G10 with an Ikelite housing and an Ikelite DS-160 substrobe. a perfect setup with sweet handling and neutrally buoyant.

all in all it might cost you ~2000$, depending on the strobe you decide to buy (if you want to). otherwise there are also compact housings for the G-series... they give you a good result, too.
