I'm 65 days out from my first visit to Coco View and I'm very excited about it. Unfortunately, the friends I was traveling with had to cancel and, since I have my plane tickets, I'm going to go for it any way. I've been assigned a roomie courtesy of the CocoView roommate finder program, but I don't know her and I don't know what her plans are for the week - she may be meeting others there, and she may not be looking for a buddy.
I understand from a regular here that y'all are a wealth of information on Roatan. Do me a favor and reassure me that everything will be fine, and that I won't be pouting in the hammock while everyone else shore-dives with their friends and laughs at me - please? :)

You'll be fine... My wife stayed there by herself, once while I returned for work in the US one week early. She and her assigned roommate didn't really dive together, they just shared a room together. They could have dove together but it just didn't work. My wife wanted to dive dive dive, the other lady was not much into that intense dive schedule. Your free to do what ever you want regardless of your room mate might be planning. Go and have a good time. There will be plenty of folks on the boat, with whom, you'll want to hook up with for diving, once you get the meet them, plus, you can always go with the DM. He's always there. heck you might get lucky and get the room for yourself, but don't hold your breath. they are pretty full right now. We leave tommorrow for our 5th visit. Great place, great diving.

CoCoView isn't necessarily Roatan. The island is a funny place~ kind of like that old story about seven blind men seeing an elephant. Each of them had a different perception because of their limited exposure. On Roatan, a visitor who spends a week at CCV will have an entirely different week than someone who stays elsewhere. If you have tried them all, CCV wins the diving contest hands down.

For advice specific to CoCoView, SCUBABoard is a good place, as most of the people who haunt SB seem to have fallen in love with the place. The other bulk of Roatan savvy posters on SB are familiar with the West End. Most of those better informed posters are locals there answering questions from inquiring guests. As far as a general level of "Roatan/SB connectivity Matrix", I would rank them as follows: CCV (10), BIBR (7), IoLR (4), West End (4), FIBR (1). Again- this only refers to the number of people who have been to these places who also contribute here regularly.

For the best CoCoView info, check the postings at CoCoView Message Board. Jump in and post something, noobs are always welcome. It is fun to see their anxious postings change upon their return home after their visit!

The CoCoNuts (officially a designation of a diver who has been there 5+ times) are listed on a connected web page. It is amazing to see how many multiple return trips are made by divers who also travel all over the world.

You'll have a grand time, relax. If you don't want the room mate they assign to you, just do what I do. Snore like a chainsaw. Either that or just grab a hammock yourself.
