Hotel California...........

Donald Trump says London has no go areas for the police and stabbings are rife. 10 million residents would argue with this. Stay away from those islands of the Philippines, and Indonesia, and avoid those parts of the Middle East where there's trouble, and enjoy the majority where people want to be nice. After all, none of it is as violent as the USA!!!

London has plenty of areas where you need to watch your stuff during the day, and your back late at night!

But yeah, use general common sense / street smarts and you're fine in most of the world.

Lots written on SB about safety in Indonesia. Have been visiting/living in Indonesia since early 70's. Never had a problem I couldn't smile (or pay) my way out of-including getting arrested in Pontianak by the local Army warlord because my host hadn't paid a big enough bribe (but that was 1983). These days biggest problem you're likely to encounter is flight delays and traffic in the cities.

Mosquitos (and their diseases) are a thing, but Singapore has Dengue, too. I wear light colored long sleeved clothes treated with Permethrin whenever in the jungle or at dawn and dusk and spray DEET on wrists, ankles and neck. Malarone/Doxy is an option but only worth it (IMO) if you're in a high malaria area.

Get your shots. Don't pet the dogs. Keep monkeys a distance. Pack lomotil, bacitracin, Zithromax. Don't ride a motorcycle and watch out crossing the street. In other words, use your head and you'll be fine as long as Mount Ruang stays quiet...

Manado is the Chtistian strong hold in the country and much much safer than the seedy Phuket in Thailand. There is nothing to worry about.
Enjoy the trip.
Safety has not much to do with being a Christian stronghold. Indeed the majority here is Christian (not a stronghold), but places where the majority is Muslim or Hindu are not less safe.
To compare, for fun, Missisipi 23 murders per 100.000. Indonesia 0.6 murders per 100.000.

It's a bust!
:eek::pullhair::trainwreck:

Unfortunately, I have had a recent surgery, and cannot get dive insurance until 6 months have elapsed 😡So, although I am skipping around like a young gazelle, I am not fit to dive apparently! It will have to wait till probably May 2025.......... This trip to Manado was to be the start of my epic 70th birthday RTW, with the finale in Taveuni via NZ. Hey ho............
I would like to say a big "Thankyou" to everyone who replied to my post - it certainly had the desired effect vis-a-vis my wife! I like to think it also helped others too.......🙂
Going off to have a damned good sulk now..........
Thanks v. much - Jeff

Im chilling on anchor in Wakatobi right now watching this supermoon. Life is good here in Indo.
Hi, returning diver here. 17 long years ago life got in the way of diving. My wife and I had selected where we would dive next and then..........Anyway, for our first trip since I found the very place we would have visited next - TwoFish Divers in Manado. Unfortunately my wife has just read the Swiss travel advisory for Indonesia and is freaking out  She is convinced we will be :-
kidnapped
arrested for being in possession of aspirin
infected with rabies, typhoid, yellow fever, monkeypox, malaria
robbed
Obviously any combination or even all of the above are likely..........
Could anyone who has had a good or bad experience at Manado Airport or a resort please let me know so I/we can reassure her.
Ta v. much
Jelf

A lot of people have misconception on Islam.
Plenty of tourists had toured India but very few of them would had cross over to Pakistan before the ongoing political instability ruin the country.
Safety has nothing to do with murder alone. It is the petty crime that deters would be tourist.

Two Christian school girls were beheaded in Sulawesi in 2005.

Poso riots? Forgotten already.
