Does anyone know if they sell cactus juice at FIBR? I found some last year in Athens Ga and forgot to get more last week. I can't find any place that sells it in Savannah.
Thanks
Lynn

Yes Lynn, they do sell it in the Fantasy Island gift shop. When we were there in January they had run out. This past trip I had plenty on hand so I forgot to see if they had any in stock.

If not, paddle a kayak across the channel to CCV. The originator of the stuff dives there, so they are pretty well stocked up all the time.

I still have some and also a couple of other sprays that worked well....I just would rather use cactus instead of sprays....

The only study done on repellants, showed that Cactus Juice just didn't work. It seems to be a diver myth. If you use, and don't get bit, its because they ain't bitin'.

Well I used it last year and only got a few bite and yes they were definatley out there biting. What works for one might not work for another. Depends on the person...my daughter could have on every spray there is and will still get bit and have more of a reaction. Just the way it is.
But thanks,

For some, Cactus juice works, especialy when talking about sand flies and not mosquitoes but it probably is not much better than slathering on any type of cream or oil that would form a layer the bugs get caught up in. Problem is that while for most, sand flies are simply annoying where as the skeeters can be out right dangerous. Dengue is not nicknamed bone break disease just for giggles.

I know, huh??? I love Cactus Juice and it works great (on me:D) to keep away sand flies. But it doesn't protect you against mosquitos, which are the REAL threat. Not only is Dengue a possibility, but Malaria exists on the island as well. These things should be taken into consideration when walking around the island. This is when you need to use a spray with DEET...to keep away the mosquitos:eyebrow:

The greatest benefit of the spraying done at Fantasy Island is not that it keeps the sand flies to a minimum...it keeps the mosquitos away!
