Weather Underground has some good tropical weather tracking info. FYI ... John is basically a non-issue for your trip unless it does actually hit Cabo as a Cat3 ... which while statistically possible is likely low probability.

Thanks for the link! I'm not worried about John, but would like to keep tabs on any other possible storms out there.

The maps can be found at http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ .
What I am wondering is how bad the situation will be. I'm from the Netherlands ans have no clue whether this is something to cancel your holiday for; or that it means your locked in your hotelroom for a day.
Does anyone have some advice for this?
I'm traveling sept 2nd -sept 12th to La Paz....

Probably a stupid question, but do hurricanes actually hit near Cabo or do they just affect the water conditions?

When I was down in Cabo last week, I was given the best weather site for Cabo and the La Paz area by Ivan at Underwater Diversions.

This site gives you info from many sources available on the web.

I don't think I'd cancel your trip over this, but I've never been down there at this time either. The distance between La Paz and Cabo can be found here:

220Km or 137 miles - pretty good distance.

The air temps in Cabo have been in the 90's, so if you have to, you can always grab a bottle of tequila and go to it!

Does anybody know any detail on how Cabo faired in the hurricane?

It looks as if the Cabo region is going to be sandwiched between Tropical Depression 14-E to the West and Hurricane Lane to the East at least for the next 5 days. Although they aren't likely to damage the land facilities, sea activities may be problematic.

Depression is descriptive but the Spanish word for it is better: Tormenta .
